Day 22: A bit about serotonin levels. My hunger is missing. I have to force myself to eat meals. It has taken 3 full weeks to get to this point though. I have just read the book The Schwartzbein Principle. Such a great book for us lowcarbers! It is my 2nd favorite lowcarb book.."Good calories, Bad Calories" being first.
Dr Schwartzbein reminded me that when estrogen levels dip around TOM..serotonin levels dip as well..leading me to a few days of wicked hunger.
With high serotonin levels, carb cravings subside, mood is elevated, pain tolerance improves, and sleep is more restful.
With low serotonin levels, the opposite occurs. It seems like right now, my serotonin levels are peachy keen!
If they get weird around TOM, then I can walk, get more AM sun (since increased melatonin decreases serotonin), keep right on eating atkins-friendly foods, and keep stress at bay.
Atkins is a very serotonin-friendly diet! Yay!

I'll have to keep those things in mind next time my TOM comes around. Thanks, Shannon.
