General Tsao Chicken

A healthy spin on a traditional favorite chicken and rice dish that's full of taste and flavor.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together broth, cornstarch, sugar, soy sauce, vinegar and ginger; set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add scallions, garlic and pepper and cook 2 minutes. Add chicken and cook until browned all over, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add reserved sauce and simmer until sauce thickens and chicken is cooked through, about 3 minutes.
  4. Serve chicken and sauce over rice.
  5. Yields about 1 cup of chicken and sauce and 1/2 cup of rice per serving.

Reviews
I have never written a review before but OMG this dish is amazing. I agree with blity when she said "it feels like you are cheating on your diet, that is how good it is". My husband LOVED it. Side Note: We didn't have any rice but blanched broccoli and red peppers for 3 minutes in boiling water, when the chicken was cooked and the sauce was thickened we added the veggies and served once heated through ( approx. 1 minute...didn't want the sauce to become watery). We will definitely be having this again. Who needs take-out Chinese when you can have this dish.

Fantastic!!!! Everyone loved this recipe. I did have to use flour instead of cornstarch b/c I didn't have any and we used brown rice and added broccoli. It was great. Even my 8year old asked if we could have it again tomorrow! It's a Keeper! I think next time we will use a little less flour so there is more of a sauce tho.

I have made this WW recipe before it turned out so tasty! my only complaint is there wasn't enough sauce.

Awesome!! We also subbed splenda for the sugar, and then boiled the chicken with the garlic and then tossed in pan with nonstick spray to cut the oil.

prob great if use another thickener such as arrowroot, use brown rice, and substitute maybe brown rice syrup for sugar, and watch the oil.
