I'm a 63-year old woman who eats well (but just too much) and loves to exercise. My husband and I have spent the past 3 summers hiking on the Appalachian Trail, and have gone from Georgia to Vermont. (We have 600 miles to go to complete the trail in Maine).

We try to eat local, organic, sustainable foods when possible. THAT'S quite a journey!

the k before calories
It's a metric unit: Kilocalorie (as in kilometer or kilogram), which is the same as Calorie with a large "C." That's the Calorie we talk about with food and exercise. Calorie with a small "c" is much smaller (1/1,000) and is used in physics as a measurement of heat.
