It's time for a change and it needs to be permanent. I've been battling my weight most of my life and for years had just given up. Now I'm ready to work and see where it can get me.

This journey is as much about health as it is about weight-loss. My father suffered a mild stroke at only 64 yrs. old. I'm determined not to end up in the same boat. Not without a fight anyway....

I was an athlete in school, only average, but an athlete nonetheless. I'm looking forward to being able to participate in more activities I used to enjoy.

Progress on my journey:
July 312
August 300 (12 lbs. down)
September 286.2 (13.8 lbs. down)
October 274.3 (11.9 lbs. down)
November 268.7 (5.6 lbs. down)
December 276.9 (one week post-op from ACL reconstruction - 8.2 lbs. Up)
January 260.8 (16.1 lbs. down) 51.2 lbs down so far!!!

I agree with Kat. I totally love my Bodybugg, don't regret buying it for a second. I too was annoyed initially by the subscription fee, but the information it provides, far better than any estimation has been well worth the money in my book.

New-ish! :)
You're both right the exercise is so very, very important. It will also help shape the body you're going to have when you reach your goal. The secret is to find something that you truly enjoy doing ( I know that's next to impossible to imagine right now! It was for me too just about a year ago) If you find something you truly have fun doing and then commit to whatever amount of time you can fit in on a daily basis. You will stick with it. For me that was Zumba DVDs. Absolutely love it! I can do it on my own schedule. The music and movements are fun and broken into small segments so the time goes by fast! Hang in there and keep moving as @oscar96 said, just increased activity will help. Keep up the great work both of you!

Bodybugg, fitbit etc
I personally have the Bodybugg and have been using it for about 8 months. I absolutely love it and feel it was worth every penny. For me it does seem to be very accurate. However,I don't use the software to track my calories in or to drive the number of calories I eat. But track all of that in a separate spreadsheet where I analyze several formulas with "guesses" as to my RDI and then track them against actual vs. projected results. The Bodybugg is always closest to the actual.

I would add that there are currently 2 versions of the Bodybugg so you have 2 different price points and features to choose from. The more expensive interfaces with your iPhone or Droid eliminating the need for the digital display. (I don't have the display for the feel that I would use it at all.)

As for the chest strap heart monitors, my doctor uses that and has been happy with the results. However, I with Kat that if you want to track the "untrackable" calories burned while doing other activities during the day I think a bodybugg or bodymedia fit is the way to go.

Best wishes on your purchase decision.

Healthier Food Alternatives to a Healthier Me
I agree with the recommendation about Smucker's natural peanut butter. I LOVE it. The oil settles to the top, just stir when you open it. Then I store it in the fridg so it won't separate again, if it's too stiff I warm it a few seconds in the microwave..love Kashi products, only use whole wheat pasta, brown rice, whole wheat bread. The biggy for me is more fruits and veggies.
