Goal Weight:145.0 lb
following: Atkins
performance: losing 0.2 lb a week

I was my heaviest 8 years ago at 215lbs. At that point I did the Atkins Induction and lost 35 lbs. (I also lost interest in eggs served with cheddar cheese! Variety is key people!) Since then I have been between 167-185lbs and I have always had a few low carb meals throughout the week. Right now I am making a better commitment to the whole diet and I hope to go through each phase. My big plan is to follow the diet using all natural foods, focusing on colourful vegetables and natural meats AND avoiding sugar and artificial sweeteners (not including stevia). The 170's have been a long standing plateau for me and I would really like to break out of it and work my way down into the 150's sometime this summer.

Pre-Meditated Carb-o-cide!
Great ideas! I believe I am actually at the point where I want this enough that I will do what it takes. Talking about it, making my own food for it. In the past I was always accommodating... but now in hindsight, that does not really seem to matter. It"s my summer, my bod, my WOE... We all can do it!

Amanda, all the best and no matter what, we are here! Be sure to let us know what you have learned from it all. Smile

Pre-Meditated Carb-o-cide!
Yeah, dieting, trying to stay consistent with this particular way of eating can be a challenge at times. Especially when you are dining with family. When it is tradition where everyone is enjoying a meal and a special time together, it can seem nearly impossible to stick to it. That is my experience. For me, I think I was not strong enough and I did not put my needs first.
So, at this point, I think it is really important to go to your quiet space and decide exactly what you want. If you want the battered fish, what are you going to do for the next couple meals after that? If you have a solid plan for that, then ya, go for it. And even if you don't "feel" like eating the Atkins way the next day, you have to power yourself through it and keep on trucking. But if you want to keep losing without major stumbling and most importantly, cravings, then you have to find it in yourself to eat the way you want to, no matter what anyone else is doing. In a week I might be going to stay with some of my family who are really active and do not have any weight issues but are serious carb freaks. I am talking pizza or pasta before bed! They do not understand what works for me at all. So, I am dealing with similar issues and I hope I have it in me to keep going. I do not want to give this up, not this time!

More Progress pics ALMOST 100 Pounds
Thanks Kate! You are especially encouraging and it is so motivating to read your posts. You have got me thinking too, I might change my goal weight too. We will see how I feel when I hit the 150's. Hmmm.

And on the topic of fat girl... my fat girl, well, she has turned into a super shy person that does not do certain things because it would be embarrassing. This extends to alll kinds of situations, Yikes. Trust me, I know how sad that is but I feel that this is not so different from many others out there. But over the last few years I have committed to working out and making friends who support healthy lifestyles and being kind to myself. Life is improving and I feel like I am getting my game back.

Thanks for all the interesting and positive posts! All the best!

What do you love about Atkins?
I chose Atkins because I buy the logic that the diet gives you a break from carbs and helps reset your hormones. That is why I don't have cravings when I am on the diet. I also think that some of us are experiencing health problems because we are consuming too many carbs and we are making our bodies suffer by having to deal with it. I find it a little funny how this is such a controlled diet. It is a little experiment (when done correctly) in reseting your relationship to carbohydrates and determining the maximum amount that you can personally tolerate.

But I find that Atkins really simplifies it and perhaps too much so. Some people can't tolerate dairy or eggs and they don't even know it. It is inflammation that the person might have trouble identifying. i have heard of people going on a low allergen diet and losing 30 pounds because, as they found out, eggs were not their thing. Perhaps some people who are wholeheartedly following Atkins and not succeeding might be allergic to something that they are eating regularly.
