Performance: gaining 1.3 lb a week

Goal Weight

I am trying to make healthy food choices and be more aware of what (and why) I eat. I am also trying to stick with regular daily exercise and increased activity, and drinking at least 1/2 my body weight in water daily.

My ultimate goal is to be less than 150 pounds and wear a single digit clothing size.

Stress eating
Food should not be a motivator or reward if it is what you struggle with. After doing well on the treadmill a good reward may be a relaxing bubble bath without interruption from the kids (if possible).

Also, try to plan your eating. Like you will have breakfast at this time, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, then dinner. Don't even go into the kitchen aside from those times unless you are cleaning or preparing the meals/snacks. If it is not your scheduled meal or snack time, then you shouldn't be snacking - grab a large glass of water or crystal light instead.

Stress eating
The thing that has worked best for me is to make a mantra and repeat it to myself several times a day whenever I start feeling stressed and ready to run to the fridge.

examples:

"Food is meant to sustain me, it can be enjoyable, but it should not be my source of comfort."

"Food is fuel for my body, I will only eat when I need more fuel to keep my body going."

Another very important thing is to find a constructive activity to do when you are feeling stressed - it will help you retrain yourself to do that instead of running to get some food. For example, I will pull out my jewelry making supplies or my scrapbooking kits to take my mind off whatever is bothering me.

Optical Illusion or What?
It seems that the closer we get to our goal, the more critical (subconsciously) we get of ourselves.

Try to get a better grasp on what you have actually lost and how well you really do look by comparing your former clothes to what you are now wearing, taking weekly/monthly measurements, or simply enjoying activities that would have made you exhausted 30 pounds ago - THAT stuff will prove how well you're doing.
