I am 42 years old, married, with no children (except the fuzzy four-footed kind - one of them is pictured at left)(dogs, too!). I have been heavy almost all of my life. It started about kindergarten and I have steadily gotten heavier each year.
My husband & I started a variation of the Atkins/low-carb type of diet back in August 2010. We were giving up sugar and white flour. (Well - 95% giving up - we had a little now and then.) We have also switched to brown rice and wheat pasta - but those were also in limited amounts.
(**-Update Feb. 2011 - Our friend, the personal trainer, has changed us from low-carb to specific carbs. He agrees 100% with giving up the majority of the sugar & white flour, but now he has us on certain carbs to build muscle and increased our fiber intake.)
The heaviest I have been is 275lbs - so I've already managed to drop a few pounds - but I have a lot more to go. My husband is also heavy - he's around 285lbs. We are trying to get fit together (which helps a lot!).
My husband, myself, & a friend of ours joined Gold's Gym in an effort to get more excercise on top of the dieting. I have to confess that the excercise has proven to be very rewarding!
**Update August 2011 -- I have officially lost 75 lbs to date and I feel wonderful! I have a few more pounds to go, but I feel confident that I will make it. My husband has also done well. He is officially at 70 lbs lost to date and is still working on his weight, too.
