25 December 2007

Merry Christmas all, I have had a truly relaxing holiday, no stressful eating. My dog though is fortunate to be alive, We went out to eat on Christmas eve and didn't worry about him doing any harm since he had been leaving the presents alone under our tree. My daughter though had dropped off gifts for later in the evening and unwittingly had wrapped bags of chocolates up for the grandkids. We came back to a tremedous mess, chocolate, wrappers, ripped up wrapping paper all over the front room. He ate the chcolates, wrapper and all. and ate a whole bag of theM!!! Chocolate is suppose to be very harmful to dogs. He must have a cast iron gut. He mostly was on a sugar high for about 5 hours. He could'nt sleep. ran in circles for about 15 minutes. Now, he is suffering from a major hangover today, sleeping, snoring, lurching for quarters!! He stinks too, but appearts to have not suffered any permanent damage Wow, if that is what a sugar rush does to dogs, no wonder we all act so zooey when we indulge. My little corgie sure taught me a lesson, moderation, moderation, moderation.

Today was our company's Christmas dinner. I have attended them before so I knew in advance what they would serve, Heres the menu, pulled pork
turkey breast
mshed potatoes gravy
rolls
corn
canned cranberies
brownies

I had a big helping of the turkey and had brought a salad with me knowing what the menu would be. I am a big woman and I had several people offer to go get me a "real" plate of food. They though that because I was in a wheel chair I wasn't able to get to the buffet. One person offered me her brownie. My girlfriend finally bless her, said, are you trying to kill her, she's dieabetic!! Anyway I survived the dinner with nary a foul taste. I actually felt sorry for these people because I knew how tired this meal was going to make them. I worked late till after 6 and I go in at 6 in the morning. I had younger people then me asking to leave early. MMM must be the Atkins.. I feel really good.

I find it helps me to post when food seems to be an ever menacing factor. I have been playing nice grandma today and made homemade chocolate chunk cookies for my grandsons. The cookies are in my kitchen calling my name dammit, I think I will change my name to Twiggy, then I will have to live up to my name. Evenings are tough, I have several hobbies but until I get my eye surgery I cant do them. I gave up doing needle point last year because of my visual problems. I am sooo looking forward to doing that again. And of course I love to read. check that off the list. Soon, oh so soon. So, I sit and type and think of the nasty things I would say to those cookies. I finally decided that I can't eat them not because they are evil or bad for me (that has NEVER worked) but that if I wanted one I could have one but I just don't want one. I have never done well when being denied anyway. This way I am giving myself a choice. I can choose or not to choose, oh how existential!! Hope you all are getting through the holiday made for a diabetic nightmare, lol. I just about go into a diabetic coma smelling all the goodies around me. My favorite, is when people come in with something yummy and apoligize to me!! Oh I am sorry, I forgot you can't eat this. I always say but yes I can, I choose not to so because it would kill me. They invariable laught thinking I am kidding....I am not. I have seen what has happened to my body over the years by not taking my diabetes seriously. I am fortunate though my heart is great, My blood pressure is good,my kidneys are doing well but my feet and eyss have been my problems. After all these years it could have been worse..can you tell that those cookies are still bothering me.. Just a sec...I went and put them in my freezer. that shut them up...
