performance: losing 1.3 lb a week

Hi, I'm Suzy... I'm 29, married mom of 4. I have been using fatsecret for the past couple of years. In 2011, I lost a total of 50 lbs! I was very proud of myself. Then, I got pregnant with my daughter and put back on a bit of weight. I'm still not where I used to be, but I hope this time to reach my target weight of 145 lbs.

I'm not following any special diet, I'm counting my calories, I've switched to almost ALL whole grains, and am making sure to get all my servings of fruit & veggies every day. I power walk every day for a 1/2 hour on my lunch break at work. I do strength training in the morning before work. I'm back on track! Who's with me?

However i do break the rules on a regular basis but generallly stay at at least maintenance

Monday - Friday I am on a schedule because of work, so I have my routine in terms of eating and exercising. I'm a little relaxed on the weekends, especially now that the summer is almost here. There will be BBQ's on almost a weekly basis. I just have to moderate and behave myself, and keep my hands out of the bowl of potato chips!

Like I said everyone is different. I went on the pill. I'm now off the pill and just using calendar meathod. I hate putting anything in my body. I stopped the pill november of last year and I'm just getting regular periods now.

That didn't work for me... I guess I was too irregular. Had baby girl #4 that way. Laughing

Was it depo Provera you were on Suzy? And did the weight come off ok once you stopped it or are you in the same position as me? I don't know how long this will be in my system and if my metabolism will return to normal once it's gone or if it'll be a struggle to get this weight off..it's so frustrating because before I took it I was maintaining the weight I was,and my eating habits didn't change and I still put o so much in such a short space of time..and nothing seems to be working in terms of weight loss..never again!

Yep. It took about 6 months after I stopped for my body to get back to normal. It affects your appetite, that's why it made dieting so difficult for me. I was always hungry. I'd like to add that I had similar problems on a few different pills I tried also, which is one of the reasons I went the IUD route. Plus, I don't have to worry about it for 10 years, which is nice.

I had the same thing happen Sasha-Anne... Copper IUD is the only form of long-term contraception I know of without hormones.

If you accept the CICO approach MENTALLY you make a switch and it becomes far more sustainable than some fad diet because you realise it works and its actually very simple to understand and therefore adhere to

Ultimately CICO is the way it works.

That being said, there's a lot of good elements of some of the fad diets that are out there that I've picked up and incorporated into my own diet that improve my health and assist with my weight loss.

For example, I try to eat clean as much as possible as it makes me feel better and makes my skin look amazing. I purchase minimally processed foods whenever possible, do not eat microwave meals and cook 90% of my food from scratch.

Whole grains are the best! I've realized how much of a difference it makes when I eat a sandwich with whole grain bread as opposed to white bread, eat brown rice instead of white rice, etc. I stay full for longer which makes eating a low calorie diet so much easier.

I limit my sugar intake, because I've realized it starts a domino effect and causes serious cravings. I use stevia instead whenever I sweeten my coffee or tea.

I break these rules, of course, like anyone else... I will not deny myself a treat that I like every now and again...but I typically follow them. I'm aware now that every single thing I put in my mouth has an effect on something in my body, and some foods are more diet-friendly than others.
