How do you prevent loose skin?
Hey Classic Rocker,
Actually, a number of larger individuals have lost their loose skin without surgery, and stretch marks can be severely diminished in appearance with application of Bio Oil(great for all sorts of skin imperfections)has been proven to fight wrinkles and stretch marks. Loosing weight too fast is what mainly causes loose skin. Your body has no time to gradually adjust. This is common with bariatric surgery, which causes extreme weight loss very quickly. Building muscles replaces the fat that was lost as well as lots of hydration.
As I said, more protein, more water, no sun, alcohol or smoking; and things like abdominal plank exercises and weights that target the back of the arm and the inside of the thighs. If you were 300+ lbs overweight, then yes, you may have loose skin. My weight loss journey started in 2000, and I have lost around 40 lbs over a 14 yr period. (I would've gotten to my weight loss goal by now if they had not put me on insulin; just getting off now, thank goodness.) My legs are very muscular due to daily exercise including weights, and I'm working very hard on my abs, arms, and back. I can already see progress.
I'm so sorry that you were a sunbather. I did that myself when I was a teen, but gave it up when I turned 21. I'm about to turn 48, and people can't believe I'm that old. But I've never smoked, drank or partied; I eat a high antioxidant diet; get sleep and R&R when I can; and I work out 6 days a week. I always advise young girls that time marches on...all over your face... if you choose the hard-living path. Unfortunately, the sun destroys skin's natural collagen, which is why sunbather's look so old, so fast.

Battling the Late Night Munchies
Despite keeping to 1800-2000 calories or less, I'm still consuming too many carbs in the evenings. So, I bought some vegan cacao RAW protein mix, with no wheat, gluten or dairy to make shakes for the evening to curb the munchies. It gives me a chocolate "fix," so that I don't eat the wrong thing. I missed having my shakes, but they most contain milk protein. So, my guidelines are: no wheat or wheat gluten, 1800-2000 calories daily,80-100 carbs daily, and working out 6 days a week, 2-3 hrs per day.

Exercise for arthritis and fused spine?
Try water aerobics; the weightless environment is very helpful for people in your situation. My husband does water every day and he has bad knees and degenerative disc disease. The water is warm and often helps mitigate the pain you experience. This helped me recover from a 5 week stay in the hospital in 2007-2008 (over the holidays). Go to the Y and meet with a physical trainer. You may qualify for a subsidized membership if you are low income. My husband and I pay $20/month for all the normal classes, equipment and facilities.

How do you prevent loose skin?
Actually, coconut oil supplements are supposed to accelerate your fat loss. But use Bio Oil for your outer shell (so to speak).

hair loss please help :(
You are not eating enough protein! Protein creates the building blocks that keeps hair strong and skin nice. It also builds muscle mass. Every time you work out, you create small "micro-tears" in your muscle fibers. Protein helps sculpt muscle mass from that "torn" material. (You're hearing from a person with a degree in bioengineering and BS in health ed., whose currently a grad student in public health.)
