I am 42 years old, married and a mother of one mostly grown son. I used to love to walk, hike, garden and kayak, but now am finding myself too heavy to enjoy too much physical activity. My goal is to shed some pounds and get moving again!

Anyone else notice??
Brooke, that is funny, and true. I am a huge emotional eater and there are just some things I cannot be around.
k8yk and Matt, your words are sooo true. It's not the "diet" that counts but a lifelong commitment to eating differently. My whole family has to eat differently: no more Nacho and Pizza nights, except on the very rarest of occasions, no keeping potato chips in the cupboard. And I have to make it a priority to have good foods readily available, like cut up fruit and vegetables in the fridge, I'm never out of yogurt, there is always salad. That way it's easier to grab those things instead of less healthy things lurking around.
And I'm still trying to cancel my lifetime membership to the clean plate club! Who made my mom the president, by the way?

Losing fat myths
I just wanted to say thanks to 4theking and everybody else here for posting this. What terrific discussions this post started! There is so much to learn, why aren't they teaching nutrition in schools!?!

Cheese or Chocolate?
I read somewhere a question was posed to a celebrity (sorry, I forget who, there's so many): 'How did you lose 25 pounds?' the celebrities answer: 'I broke up with cheese.'
It rings in my head, because until then, I never realized how much cheese was a staple of my diet! I couldn't give it up, although, I am cutting back.
