I am 58 years old, have suffered from Fibro for over 18 years. Have undergone more surgeries than I care to count. Major ones are cervical and lumbar fusions. Last year had melanoma cancer and as of today clear of that. Keeping my fingers crossed that nothing shows up again. That one was scary. The drugs used to treat the fibro at the time were the best on the market but the side affects were weight gain and boy did the weight ever pack on. At my top weight I was 232 lbs. I was miserable and trust me when I say it showed. I can say now, partly as a result, my 17 1/2 year marriage failed and now am still going through a 2 year divorce battle. Looking back now, I have finally come to terms with that. Found a doctor that knows a lot about Fibro and has me on drugs that are working. He also suggested a change in diet which was Atkins and well as they say the rest is history. With 26 lbs to reach my goal weight, I can say that this will be a way of life for the rest of my life. My pain is pretty much under control, still have some bad days, but not many. Still have a way to go on my emotional health but as all things it will come in time. I wish all of you all the best on your journey to a better you. Remember Atkins is not just a diet but a way of life.

The scoop on Splenda?
I have been a diet soda drinker since the early 80's. So very used to the taste. But after years of drinking it I have found that if I drink it alone just because I want one, I get hungry. Do not know if it is a mental thing or my body telling me something but I am listening. So now, IF I want I diet soda I drink it with a meal and it seems to curb the craving for the bubbles and I do not get hungry afterwards. But, I have started to limit my sodas to one or two a week if that. Water is still the best all around.

I have totally enjoyed these posts and have read them all. First, I guess I have to say congrads to all of you on your weight loss, no matter how you are doing it. You are on the road to a better you.
I like RubyRedSox suffer from Fibro and for 10 years took just about every pain drug on the market just to function everyday and work. These drugs made me gain 112 lbs. I saw more doctor than I can count and the emotional and phycially toll was horrible. To make a long story short. I found a doctor that told me about the Atkins diet and change my meds last Sept. As of today, I have 27 lbs to reach my goal of 125 lbs. My fibro pain is under control and I have a life. I still go out and have pizza, I just don't eat the crust. I eat veggies, just not a boat load of them, I can have a piece of chocolate of I want it, just not the whole thing. But one nice thing is when I go out for a steak, yes indeed I can eat the whole thing and not feel the least bit guilty. I can have the salad, and the veggies, who cares about the baked potatoe. I can have fruit. Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, any other fruit just in moderation. Just like all other dieters. Just a thought. Have a wonderful evening.
