Losing veryyy fast....
btw - to counter A comment made in this thread...overeating is NOT the only reason for weight gain. Differences in metabolic rates means that the same number of calories can produce a different result from person to person....yes, there is genetics, and also the fat to muscle ratio - thyroid issues, diabetes...ETC.

The study of obesity is a complex one - and personally I would never judge someone for being morbidly obese, as some of these posts seem to be doing. - It is not just about overeating, - for a start, it has been shown that diabetics tend not to taste sugar, and that some people are also just hungrier than others too. In short, being fat is not a CHARACTER issue - and it is not ALWAYS an emotional issue at base EITHER.

SURE - we DO need to consider WHY we are overweight, and deal with the reason - HOWEVER, we are all on this site BECAUSE we have bitten the bullet and realised, that WHATEVER the cause, - and that is going to be as many and as varied as there are individuals here - the reality for all of us is that we MUST do something about our weight. Blaming and judging is not useful - no use to anyone - not even the acccuser!

Losing veryyy fast....
Goodness ME! It seems like I have stepped into a hornet's nest! - (I have not read ALL of the posts - I came to this thread to add my 2 cent's worth, and say that I too have found subutramine (branded as reductil here) to be an effective tool for my weight loss journey) - no, it is not a 'free ticket', I DO still have to watch my diet, and exercise, but is DOES deal with the sugar cravings, and yes, I know that it is not the 'magic bullet' - and that I can't stay on it forever, - etc. -but it does make things easier in the short term, while I develop the healthier habits that will sustain me long term.

(And my doctor commented that it is the safest of the diet pills, and is not addictive. He was cautious in prescribing it, monitoring my blood pressure closely, and adjusted my blood pressure medication as well to suit.)

It seems to me that the debate I read above is more a philosophical one - between the purists, and those of us who don't care HOW the weight comes off...just that it DOES! - wanting - no NEEDING the health benefits NOW!

parking signs
Why do you feel outraged? It seems a little enough thing to do - a simple courtesy in recognition that pregnancy is special (and hard work!) That you and I would have to walk a few more metres from your car is not a biggie!.... But are you feeling cranky because you are hungry? - if so, perhaps a different eating plan might be the go, - help you regain perspective.

(BTW - I too am in my 50's with children who are fine adults in their 20s who have made some VERY good choices! )

recording activities and food intake
I am from Australia, and we are in a different timezone...and so I am a little confused as to how to record my food intake and activity. (because, according to MY callendar my 'today' is your 'tomorrow'Wink - also we use kj, not calories and some of the foods are different.

does anyone have any advice as to how to get around these things to get best use of this site?

help
I agree...sometimes it IS tough - and it feels like we are not getting anywhere. But what helped me is to realise just that - not to EXPECT that I would lose weight at the same rate each week, or that I would feel better all the time. I learnt to find encouragement in different ways too...when I had an attack of the blahs, and it seemed that the scales had not moved, I would allow myself to feel encouraged that I had not broken my diet...or I would consider what I had already lost, etc. - and I would ALSO think of non-food rewards. - and plan those out in the knowledge that I WILL eventually get to that next reward. (I avoid thinking how much I have to go...I keep the 'gap' small and doable.)
My rewards? For me, it is clothing...for every 5k I buy myself something nice..but for 10 k, it is a whole new outfit! So, it is fun looking in the shops and thinking what I might have.

Hang in there! you CAN do it! (if I can, ANYONE can!)
