Help Me
I agree with the the eat smaller portions and eat smarter, If you use your phone to count your calories you will feel more accountable for what you are putting into your mouth and then the "good" choices are easier to make. once you've done this for a couple of months you will be in the habit of making those better choices and if you miss counting a calorie or two you won't be into trouble you've already started eating healthier.

When do you record foods- before/during/after eating?
I am very social and don't know where I'll be eating at any given day all depends on where the crowd wants to go, so I usually arrive at a restaurant and go through the menu looking for what I can eat and the portion size, add it to on my phone, and then I know how much I have left for the next meal or snack etc etc etc and I can enjoy the conversation while I'm eating and not worrying that I'm overshooting my mark on calories. I've found it helps me when I'm at a restaurant that if i have decided to only eat half of what i am served and take the other half home, that if i divide the food as soon as i receive it before i start eating i can keep on track with my portion size also.

Did anyone count calories on Thanksgiving?
Didn't count on Thanksgiving day, I did all of the cooking, so tasting and putting things together I'm sure I over shot my max by several hundred, but I went right back to counting the day after and have kept on it. I did however feel the results of not watching what I was eating and when because I felt hungry at odd times the rest of the weekend. I'm a creature of habit when it comes to food, gotta eat at the same times every day.

Grocery List
I'm just a straight Calorie Counter no special diet. Eat as Healthy as I can. Remember if you are just counting calories it's not about what you eat it's about how much you eat of it. Portion, Portion, Portion, Portion, these are some items I've found that have a large(er) portion but still maintain a low calorie count.

Spicy V8
Low Sodium V8
Salad Fixings
Low Calorie Bread
Low Fat Ham
Low Fat Turkey
Tilapia
Brown Rice
Frozen Vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, etc, etc)
No Sugar Fudge Cycle (Gotta have my Chocolate)

Hodgson Mills Oat Bran Hot Cereal (The Best) (Much lower in calories and carbs much higher in fiber than corn meal)
Spray Butter
Salt
Pepper

Follow instructions on box just cut the water by a 1/4 cup, this comes out the consistency of Polenta (Corn Meal Mush), if you eat it warm it is like grits. I use it how ever I use these items.

Cream of Wheat
Splenda
Frozen Blueberry's or Raspberry's

What i do with it:
if you let the Cream of Wheat get chunky instead of creamy before adding your berries (add water but don't stir) it will taste kinda like a blueberry muffin.

Egg White Substitute
Can Chili
American Cheese
Salsa

What I do with it:
Chili Omelet (262 Calories), enough oil to keep egg from sticking to pan (wipe out excess with paper towel) 1/2 Cup Egg whites Cooked into a omelet, 1/4 Cup Canned Chili, 1 Slice American Cheese, and two Tablespoons Chunky Salsa. Stack it and eat it Smile
