estimated weight loss
http://www.lowfatlifestyle.com/calories.htm
This is a good article to give u idea on how much calories u need to lose to lose a pound. I use the calorie counter by fatsecret to put in my food calories as well as the ones burnt by exercise. The diet calendar also show the Net Calories I.e. how much u have left or burnt at the end of the day!!! This app has helped me earlier and am back to lose more!!
Good luck!!!

Need Help
I hear u...also Indian food is very high in carbs, even lentils. High in proteins but equally high in carbs!! You need to focus more on veggies and fruits and omit the fried stuff..also don't think of eliminating fat, sugar, fried stuff right away!! Baby steps!!! also log your intake. That really helps. For anything u eat, u can google to find the calories you ate. There's not a lot of Indian stuff on fatsecret. I, usually, look online and then add the calories based on what I ate.
Add exercise to routine whenever possible. Also, focus on mini-goals. May be 2 or 5 pounds at a time. I usually join the challenges on fatsecret. You have to accountable for yourself. Good luck!

Elliptical machine and calories burned
NCNOLE: yes, the machine takes height and weight into account. My heart rate usually is usually above 130 and much higher. I usually slow down when my heart rate number crosses my weight.
DAIRYKING: I totally understand what u r suggesting. And I know it is the right thing to do. But once I am on the elliptical, I feel that I am not working out hard enuf if I am not pushing myself. I am usually very tired at the end of it, I do not know if it's the numbers that make me feel as if I did something worth it, coz if I pick one of the standard programs and burn 3-400 calories, I feel guilty whole day that I have not worked out hard enuf. I have a sweet tooth, so by burning more calories, I allow myself a treat once in a while( no every day though).

I usually workout on the weekdays and take it easy on the weekends. LOSE 80: I usually watch a movie on my iPad or listen to some fast music while I exercise.

DAIRYKING: the words "heart attack" just opened my eyes. I never realized that I cud be hurting my body that bad. I think I will now try to stay within the recommended workout schedules.

Elliptical machine and calories burned
I usually workout on the elliptical for an hour, usually at max incline and max resistance and burn between 850-1000 calories every time. Does that seem right ? Or is it inflated and the machine is over estimating? I have Nordic track. Usually I do the same routine over and over, even if I try to do one of the programs, I tend to switch to maximum incline and resistance.
