I have always been over weight but after I lost my Mother and brother I really let thing get out of hand. I just didn't realize how much out of hand until I went to the doctor in January 2012. She told me that She was sure I was diabetic but I had to get some blood work done to confirm it. I was so up set with myself. My niece has lived with me since she was a little girl and every time I would think about telling her I would cry and feel like I let her down. I spent a lot of time caring for my sick mother when I was growing up and I didn't want her to go through the same thing. My husband told her and I cried, cried and cried. I started doing research on line and discovered that losing weight and low carb diets has helped a lot of diabetics keep there sugar in control. I started eating low carb and being more active. I gave up soda, sweet tea, sweets, pasta, rice, potatoes, and limited my bread intake. when I went back to the doctor she told me that my blood work came back and that I was diabetic. She was writing out my prescription while her nurse was teaching me how to use a glucose meter and my sugar levels where normal. The doctor stopped writing because she said she couldn't put me on meds because my sugar would be too low. I had lost 8 pounds and got my glucose level to a normal range within two weeks. She told me to keep doing what I was doing because it was working. So here I am keeping it up and happy to be well and I feel better than I have in years.
