As a young father I put all my attention into my kids and family responsibilities, and my own physical health suffered as a result. By the time I was in my 30s I was significantly overweight and out of shape.
Then my kids grew up and moved out, and I saw someone using a cool phone app to scan a barcode and record what they ate. Being a pretty nerdy person, I thought that was cool! So, I got the app and started to track my calories. Within a few months I had straightened out my bad eating habits and started to lose weight. (Thanks, FatSecret. I owe you my health!)
The last 10 pounds were tough, so I started running and doing some mild weightlifting. It was awesome to finally reach the appropriate weight for my height! Now I'm just struggling to keep the holiday pounds to a minimum. Sometimes I think humans were meant to bulk up and hibernate at this time of year!
