I weighed 199 lbs. at my Doctor's appointment in January 2014 and gained even more by Fall. By the time of my next January appointment I was hoping to be about 185. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered I weighed 194. That's when I decided I needed to take action. First, I dug out the scale that my wife had been storing in the closet as she was tired of tripping over it. (She's never been over weight). Just cutting back on what I was eating brought me down to 185 and I stabilized there. My company starting a program that summer where you could buy a FitBit through them at a steep discount so I started a walking program. That brought me down to 175 where I stabilized again. The following February the company sponsored a nutrition program that emphasized eating healthy foods and that brought me down to my present goal of 162. No gimmick diets for me but strictly stick to minimally processed healthy foods from all food groups with an emphasis on nutrition. I do have to count calories because I eat for taste so I tend to over eat if I don’t.

My original goal was to be the same weight as when I met my wife in 2006. I was in pretty good shape at that time, 172 lbs. with a 32 inch waist. When I reached 172 lbs. my waist was still 35" so I changed my goal to 162 which brought me down to 33". A healthier diet with no change in calorie intake caused me to lose more weight and has brought me down to a 32" waist and a weight of 155 pounds by Sept. of 2019. Since then I've continued to modify my diet by adding more fruit, more fiber, fish 3 times a week, and lower sodium intake to lower blood pressure. I'm now down to about 140 pounds with a 30" waist. I've been lax about exercise this past year due to having to be a care giver for my wife so unfortunately I've been experiencing muscle loss. I'm still consuming 2300 calories a day, which is what I was eating when I weighed 172. My next goal is to start an exercise program and gain back some muscle mass.
