I'm a 40 year old Mom of a 19 year old daughter. I have a demanding job working in the media but I will no longer allow myself to use that as an excuse for eating the wrong foods and not exercising. As my tough love Dad always told me... "suck it up, butter cup." haha
I've been fighting weight most of my adult life. I gained too much weight when I was pregnant and stayed 60 or 70 pounds overweight until 3 years ago, when I finally got back down to 135, just ten pounds from my goal. I have re-gained almost 30 of it over the past year and a half but I have vowed to take it all back off and them some. As I have gotten older, 40 now, I've noticed it is MUCH harder to take that weight off. But i am confident that if I revert to the formula that helped me lose the 65 pounds three years ago, I will be able to do it again. I may just have to exercise more than 4 or 5 times a week.

Has no one noticed your weight loss yet?
@Johanne, sounds like whomever is telling you that is mis-informed and is trying to discourage you. Sure, losing weight by exercising is preferable, but it's not impossible without it. Don't let them get you down.

Will Power?
Hang in there... cravings will go away in time if you stick to a healthy diet full of whole grains, lean protein, fruits and veggies. You eventually stop wanting excessive sugar and fat. It's like you lose the taste for it. However when I do get cravings I have my own little crutches... if I want salt, I eat pickles (practically zero calories by the way) and if I want sweet, I eat raisins. They pack a punch of natural sugar and they're fairly low in calories. Good luck!

Everybody Needs Somebody Sometimes(intuitive eating loneliness!)
I'm with Johanne. I am doing this as well, I just never had a name for it. I gave up on organized diets years ago. I don't believe in deprivation. I eat what I want, I just don't eat a lot of it. The only battle I haven't overcome is emotional eating. I find myself in the fridge anytime I'm anxious or worried. Take heart... you aren't alone. There are lots of us here not following diets.

What to do???
I used to love those coolers but after reading that just one of them contains over 200 calories I have switched almost entirely to wine. At 100 calories for 5 oz's it's not too bad. I hate the taste of diet soda with liquor so for me, there was no other reasonable choice. I find giving it pretty hard to give up alcohol on the weekends. I miss my Wednesday night wine with dinner but I can survive. But Friday night without happy hour? The horror!! lol

What am I doing wrong?
I lost 65 pounds three years ago, though sadly I have gained back almost 30 but this week I started anew. I can tell you what worked for me last time. And it's simple... make breakfast your biggest meal of the day, have a light lunch and light supper. And I never ate past 5 or 6pm. If I missed that time frame I had a tea and went to bed. I also worked out 4 or 5 times a week for about an hour. I know some people aren't big on breakfast, but if you fill yourself up early in the day it'll carry you through. The only reason I gained weight is because I stopped doing all this. Good luck!
