Hello, My name is Ann-Marie and I live in Phoenix Arizona. I have steadily gained weight over the past five years and as far as I can tell the main reasons are because I have not been disciplined with my eating and my job is very sedentary. I work at a computer all day. The good news is that I play on a women's USTA tennis team. I love eating and socializing. I will focus on eating healthy, making smart choices, and having nutritious snacks around. I need to establish and follow a daily eating plan. Getting in more exercise will help too. My goal is to lose 25 by December 1st of 2008.

On June 1st I switched to following Weight Watchers. I have a lot of the materials and a few of my Fatsecret buddies are on it so I decided to switch.

Summer B.E.A.C.H. Challenge!
Mini Challenge - 8/04 through 8/09 - Red Hot Beach Bods

I play serious tennis. Not enough to be a pro or make a living, besides I'm over 40 and the life of a professional tennis player is pretty short Smile. Anyway, I have played tennis for years and now I get a bit of pain in my knee if I play for too long or for two or three consecutive days. I know the excess weight isn't helping which is why I really need to get it off. For the challenge this week I did research on how to treat intermittent knee pain.

From the research I learned that I need to do more strengthening exercises specifically for the knee. My son has a bow flex which I used this morning to do some knee strength training.

A good article on this for anyone who is in a similar situation is

HEALTH BENEFIT IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU LOVE SMOKES: or if you are frequently exposed to secondhand smoke, then making vitamin A-rich foods, such as winter squash, part of your healthy way of eating may save your life, suggests research conducted at Kansas State University.

While studying the relationship between vitamin A, lung inflammation, and emphysema, Richard Baybutt, associate professor of nutrition at Kansas State, made a surprising discovery: a common carcinogen in cigarette smoke, benzo(a)pyrene, induces vitamin A deficiency.
studies indicate that not only does the benzo(a)pyrene in cigarette smoke cause vitamin A deficiency, but that a diet rich in vitamin A can help counter this effect, thus greatly reducing emphysema.
