I am a 44 year old married father of three kids, one is a dog. I used to be a very active person up until about the age of 25, at which time my weight averaged between 170 Lbs and 175 Lbs. My preferred sport was handball, which I played everyday after work and on weekends for hours on end. I started concentrating more on family, work and drinking beer on weekends, and less on being active. My activity went down, but my appetite stayed the same.

About seven years ago my weight was 230 Lbs, and my doctor wanted to put me on blood pressure medication, at which time I refused, and told her that I could lower my blood pressure by losing weight on my own. I did lose thirty pounds in about two months by eating healthier and jogging twice a day, I also stopped smoking and drinking beers. But about six months later I went back to my old tricks again, and so I gained the weight back and then some, I went up to 250 Lbs. Looking ahead a few years, I ended up on the same blood pressure medication that I was trying to keep away from. But the only person that I have to blame, is myself.

Right now my weight loss plan is simple, it's based on eating healthier, lower calories, low cholesterol, low fat, low sodium, less fast food, less junk food, less sugar, more fruits, more vegetables and doing 30 minute workouts on my exercise bike everyday. The only thing that I do different than most people, is that once a week, or I rather say, on Saturdays, one of my meals is something that I like, it doesn't matter if it's not healthy, but even then I keep portion control in mind.

Weekend explosion
On the weekend I get hungry more often because I'm at home. But as long as I don't go crazy or overboard with it, I'm OK with it.

Am I crazy or is my scale broken?
Thank you for the explanation, that makes a lot of sense.

Am I crazy or is my scale broken?
This morning when I checked my weight my scale said 197.2 Lbs. I haven't worked out since last week due to the flu, but I guess that I'm still doing something right, if I'm still losing weight.

I lost 35.6 in 8 weeks
On January 10th 2011 I started at 234.8 lbs, and today I'm at 199.2 Lbs, that's 35.6 Lbs in a little over 8 weeks. Now a doctor tells me that I need to go down to 179 to be healthy. But if I do, I'll look way skinny. I used to weight 170 - 175 Lbs, and when I look at those pictures, I don't like it, and my wife doesn't like it either. I'm thinking about shooting for at least 190 lbs.

Tips and Tricks
I cut pears or apples into smaller pieces and take them to work as my snack, and eat one piece every hour to control my hunger. In reality, I'm not overeating, I'm still eating one apple or pear a day, just spreading it through the day. By doing so, I don't get too hungry before my next meal. I tried it for the past two days, and it has worked wonders for me, I'm planning on trying it with other fruits.
