Like so many, I've struggled with my weight since I was a kid. When I was eight, my parents and I moved to a neighborhood without other kids so I sat around watching TV and eating. I went from being an active and healthy child to too overweight in a year and it kept going up. A good portion of my family is obese and we are all struggling. A few are on FS with me supporting each other to improve our health.

A few facts about me: I'm a graphic designer and a student in college learning to be a better writer. I am also working to open my own bookstore and coffee shop here in Caldwell with my mom as my partner. I'm a mother to my dear Damon (10 year old boys are a handful), who is such an amazing bright spot in my life and my favorite person to hang out with. I have 7 nieces and nephews and one great-niece and one great-nephew. I'm about to turn 31 and I'm single.

Ultimately, with FS I want to improve my health so that I can in turn teach my son a better lifestyle and not pass on my terrible habits to him. I know the importance of good health. With the love and support of family and friends, the FS community, years of knowledge (yoyo dieting) and the Grace and Strength from my Lord and Savior, Jesus, I know I will succeed.

My highest weight was 395 lbs (April 2009) and now it's time to change all that and make it a thing of the past. Here are my goals:

Goal #1: 385 (10 lbs lost) - reached 5/15/09 (reward: movies)
Goal #2: 370 (25 lbs lost) - reached 7/31/09 (reward: jewelry)
Goal #3: 355.5 (10% from start) - reached 11/6/09 (reward: pedicure)
Goal #4: 345 (50 lbs lost)
Goal #5: 320 (75 lbs lost)
Goal #6: 300 (95 lbs lost and super cool)
Goal #7: 295 (100 lbs lost)
Goal #8: 270 (125 lbs lost)
Goal #9: 245 (150 lbs lost)
Goal #10: 220 (175 lbs lost)
Goal #11: 200 (195 lbs lost)
Goal #12: 195 (200 lbs lost - OH MY!)
Goal #13: 170 (225 lbs lost)
Goal #14: 160 (235 lbs lost and my goal weight)

HELP - Portion Control
I need your help. I realized today that I absolutely suck at portion control. It hit me while I was making lunch - 12 oz chicken, a wrap, a salad, an orange and a glass of V8 - all for lunch. YIKES!!!

What tricks and tips do you have for good portion sizes and control?

Birthday Traditions
I'm looking for your thoughts. Traditionally on my birthday each year I get a special pizza and crazy chocolate cake. These are very high calorie items. My birthday is coming up, and I'm not sure if I should indulge or not. I realize it's only once a year, but it's so easy to break habit and I've been really good about my eating of late.

For special events do you break down and eat the high calorie foods? On Thanksgiving do you eat pumpkin pie? At Christmas do you eat the sugar cookies in the shapes of trees?

What do you think?
