burning calories
it was a challenge that started me walking 10,000 steps a day, most days i go over but I won't go to bed till I reached it. so 70,000 steps usually equals about 10.0 miles on my pedometer and trust me mine don't give you any extra. I have a omrom hj-720it it has computer software so at the end of the day it records everything. All you have to do is plug it in It cost around $35.00 at walmart online. I love it it records steps, aerobic steps, miles and grams of fat burned. it also records daily, weekly, monthly and yearly how awesome is that. it comes with a clip and a safety clip. It is a good buy if you are in the market for a pedometer!

Not sure where you got this information - but pretty sure it's not accurate. You can't state this as a fact. Everyone burns calories differently- gender, age, weight, type of activity, physical fitness level, all play a role and just b/c someone walks 10k steps a day does not mean they will lose 1-2 lbs. Sorry, just don't want you to mislead anyone.

I got it off a low carb site by one of the doctors, but I am over this site and atkins because everyone always has something negative to say..........Whatever!!

How many calories to burn a pound of weight

It takes 4 calories to burn a carb. It takes 3,500 calories to burn a pound of weight, If you walk 10,000 steps a day seven days a week that will equal one to two pounds of weightloss a week! Not counting how much you are already losing from your atkins diet.......I can hear you putting on your tennis shoes now.....lol....Have a great week!

Hot Tips From Jacq About atkins
Laughing Top Tips For New Members

There is great advice posted everyday by "veterans" for new members. I've tried to gather the most frequently posted tips for new members.

TOP TIPS FOR NEW MEMBERS:•Read “A New Atkins For A New You” (aka NANY).
•Join the Atkins website & complete your profile.
•Complete the lessons ( http://www.don.freidkin.com/Atkins%2...011LessonsPDF/ )and learn about the tools available.
•Weigh yourself AND take your measurements, and perhaps a photo.
•Commit to following the guidelines and doing the work. (Program outline here: http://cauk.atkins.com/program/ )
•Print the acceptable food list (multiple copies - http://cauk.atkins.com/program/phase...his-phase.html ).
•Clean out your kitchen (no more junk).
•Go grocery shopping for acceptable foods.
•Eat and drink only acceptable foods.
•Follow the induction guidelines - no "tweaking" for at least two weeks. (Or OWL guidelines if you are starting there)
•Set up your tracking system (can be online or paper. Fatsecret.com, fitday.com etc).
•Track everything you eat and drink.
•Keep it simple - follow the guidelines, do not worry about percentages of fat, protein, carbs, # calories etc.
•Buy a digital food scale (measuring cups are ok, but a scale is better).
•Prepare your menu in advance (Weekly is great. Anticipate outings, special events etc).
•Eat a variety of food – keep your menu varied to prevent boredom & ensure your nutritional needs are met.
•Prepare some snacks & even meals to have on hand ready to go at anytime.
•Plan to drink your water…lots of water. If you don’t like it – set small goals to increase your intake.
•Eat 20 net carbs per day (net carbs = total carbs minus fibre).
•Of the 20 nc, ensure at least 12-15 come from foundation vegetables.
•Eat adequate protein & fat. (NANY Pages 42-43, 49-5Cool
•Limit artificial sweetener to 3 servings or less per day.
•Limit Atkins products to 2 or less per day.
•Limit cheese to 4 ounces or less per day.
•Watch for hidden carbs – check ingredients.
•Eat regular meals and snacks – don’t skip meals or go more than 6 waking hours without eating.
•Take a multi-vitamin/mineral (no iron) and omega 3 daily.
•Set SMART goals….write them down. Ensure you include small goals to help you reach your weight loss goal.
•Participate in the forum – ask questions, get support and learn from others.
•Use the tools available on this website, and remember Colette and Don - our Atkins Experts.
•Get your family onboard, if possible, but remember what you eat is your decision, no one else’s.
•Exercise at your own pace…if you haven’t exercised in a while, begin slow when you feel ready.
•Don’t get discouraged if you make a mistake. Learn from it – make your next bite on plan!
•Don't be a prisoner of your scale. Weigh monthly, weekly, daily or whatever works for you to motivate & help you understand what works for your body. Expect fluctuations - they are normal.
•Track your progress – not just your weight, remember to consider your measurements, energy level, how you are feeling, all of the positive changes you have made along the way.
•If your progress isn’t what you feel it should be, don’t get discouraged – ask for help -sometimes it is a simple fix to get you on track.
•Learn, learn, learn – everything you can about Atkins. Remember it is not a quick fix
