I am 31 years old and have been overweight pretty much my entire life. I liked to blame it on genetics (but truly it was learned unhealthy eating habits). Fortunately I am fairly tall (5'11") and so my weight is spread pretty evenly throughout my body. This is great except for that with the tall height and matching girth sometimes I can feel even bigger and almost oppressive when standing next to smaller or shorter people.
I’ve never tried dieting before. Probably because I never felt diets would work for me. It’s never really been about the quality of what I ate but the quantity. I love food. I love to cook. However hearing about the SBD from my sister (she’s a nurse practitioner) something clicked. The concept of the diet really makes sense, learning how to eat better for life makes sense. Now I just hope I can put it to practice.
New picture as of Nov 2007. At that time down approx. 67 lbs. Its a battle everyday but it seems to get easier.

south beach bars
There are three types that I have found:

1) SB Meal Replacement Bars. Usually found in diet foods section of grocery store.

2 SB Cereal Bars. Found with other brands' cereal bars and poptarts, usually in same aisle as regular cereal.

3) SB Snack Bars. You guessed it, found in snacky food section (although I've also seen in diet foods section).

I've tried the first two types and absolutely love the Meal Replacement bars (cinnamon crème is my fave). They are quick for a rushed morning and a good size so I feel as though I've actually eaten something. They're also good on my days off when I'm out running errands. I just carry in my purse so I have one ready for my lunch instead of being tempted to stop for fast food. The Cereal Bars I tried were just okay. I've stayed away from the Snack Bar because I don't like the idea of eating something so candy bar like when if I truly feel I need a snack I could eat something much healthier.

What the heck???
Or do you mean the picture by your name? It appears to me its a sausage cut in half? To change: Go to My fatsecret tab, then in my profile choose my image. You can then insert an actual picture that's already saved on your computer or choose one of the fun food or drink images from the site's image gallery.

Question of the Day 6/25:
Last summer I was at family dinner and my sister put sliced cucumbers into each glass of ice water (instead of lemon). It was surprisingly delicious and very refreshing. Now I tell some of my patients to do this in order to encourage them to drink more water.

Prepacked prepared SB meals
I'm not big on pre-packaged meals or frozen dinners but I have tried the South Beach Meal Replacement bars (little bigger in size than the cereal bars) and they are fantastic. I especially enjoy the cinnamon creme ones. I'm usually not very hungry in the morning so they are perfect for a quick & light breakfast (usually consumed while driving to work!).

100 + Pounds to Lose
I am following South Beach diet and my goal is to lose 100 lbs. I've been overweight much of my life and have never really done much about it – until now. Turning 30 this last year I realized that much of life will pass me by unless I do something about it and involve myself in it. I currently have no children however I do want them in the future and wouldn't want current health issues to impede the process when my Honey & I are ready. My goal weight seems so far away but its encouraging knowing there's you guys out there with me - and I'll be here for you!
