I love the outdoors especially hiking and backpacking. After 5 years of nearly full time school and working full time, I now have time to get outdoors more. The last year I started traking total miles per week from walking, jogging and hiking. As I add more hiking miles, I have decreased jogging.
Most weekends, I do one or two 8-10 mile hikes in Angeles National Forest. Most trails are steep with 2500 to 3500 elevation gain, so I get quite a workout.
Being that I am already very active, averaging 15-20 miles a week, I have to be really careful about my calories. If I eat too little, I don't loose. Same for if I eat too much. I try to average just over my RDI which it set to lose 1 pound a week. It has worked for me. I have to ignore the NET Calories.
