Ok I am 41, married for the 2nd time (I really think its takes two times to get it right- seriously), mom to a 10 year old daughter. I work in the defense industry at a shitty desk job that bores me to tears, and last weekend 4/13 started back to school to get a masters in teaching. This will be my second masters degree - not bragging, just making the connection between two marriages and two degrees HA! I am also a hobby baker, and a fairly busy one. NOT a hobby I would suggest for someone who wants to lose weight. We have cake and icing everywhere! The upside is that I am rarely interested in eating it thanks to desensitization. THANKFULLY.

I have watched myself gain 20 lbs in the past 3 years and have decided enough is enough. My body was the same for many years, I had a serious weight loss that was AWESOME *singing praises* then I fell off the wagon and slowly but surely gained it all back. What a buncha crap. I wish I could go back 4 or 5 years and smack my 35 year old self.

Anyhoo, thanks for reading. Best of luck to all of us :)

how do you curve your cravings and reduce your appetite?

I haven't really done anything to lose weight but to look at my calorie intake, but as one goes for a long time, one starts to notice how things affect us.

What everyone said is right. Protein, fat and fiber will fill you up. It'll make you feel more full and satisfied.

However, I think it's important to point out the opposite too - carbs will make you feel more hungry - fast! If you get hungry and go for white bread, or products with sugar (and everything else heavy on carbs), odds are that you'll end up feeling MORE hungry, so watch out for those.

If you can, go for a slice of ham, an egg, cheese, and other products heavy on protein. Just remember that they often will cost some on the calories. They're worth it though, as you don't end up binging on MORE carbs. Smile

Kingkeld I have been spying on your diet calendar and must ask the question: HOW in the world do you keep your calorie intake so low?? I am impressed as heck and jealous too! The cravings (sometimes I think they are completely mental but I'm not sure) drive me crazy in the afternoons and I am all over this peanut butter idea. But I can't imagine maintaining the low calories like you do. Is it a matter of adjusting to it over time? Do tell.

Binge Eating Monster
This is one of the best posts I've read in a looooong time. I don't know how to classify myself when it comes to food - and I don't spend much time thinking about it - I am trying like %^&* to stay focused this time around. My husband talked me out of starting the diet pills for 30 days (THE FREAKING THINGS ARE SITTING ON MY COUNTER) to see what I can accomplish naturally. So far, 5 days in, I am quite proud of myself and SHOCKED AS $%#^ about the amount of carbs and crap in the stuff I eat. I feel kind of foolish actually. How many times have I been on this eat right/exercise roller coaster? 1000's. And hey look I'm back again! Sigh.

But I guess the point is that I AM BACK again and not giving up and pretending that I love myself for who I am and how I look now (what a buncha crap). I don't love myself at all. I mildly dislike myself. And with will power and support I think I can get to the point where I do like myself.

The coolest thing of all is, frankly, these message boards. I am a complete loner when it comes to everything. You guys are so cool - I'm glad you are all so honest and forthcoming and boy it makes me feel like I can be honest and forthcoming too.

Sorry - this is Megan's post and not supposed to be all about me. No hijacking intended.

Qsymia anyone?
Soooo I hesitate to bring up a weight loss pill (gasp!) because people get up on their high horses about losing weight naturally, no chemicals etc. But I'm bringing it up anyway dammit!

I took Phentermine years ago and had very good success with it - but one glaring exception. I was a smoker at the time and it at least doubled my # of cigarettes per day. NOT GOOD. I kept the 40 or so lost pounds off for a couple of years, then started to slide back into old habits, quit smoking, got divorced, moved away, all that fun stuff. No excuses: I allowed myself to backslide.

Fast forward about 7 years: extremely happily married, gained back all that 40 lbs plus a few more. Am miserably unhappy with myself - I feel like I look like shit and had previously decided the best way to handle it was to "embrace my curves and just love myself for who I am." Translated: denial denial denial.

Then a trip to my doctor last week and a conversation about Qsymia got me thinking. Doc and I have talked about losing weight for a couple of years now and I asked him to let me try the pill. Its due to come in the mail any day now. I'm interested, a bit excited, and a lot scared.

Its part phentermine and part toporimax (sp?) and I am happy to see that the phentermine dosage is quite low (the old pills were 37.5mg which blasted me out of my skull and these are at most 7mg whew).

The max time on the pill is 3 months. Here's my thinking: its a jump start. I started walking at lunch and after work yesterday (starting gradually obviously), logged myself back in to FS yesterday too. Baby steps.

I know HOW to eat right and exercise, I just have to do it. I JUST WANT TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT MYSELF AND STOP HATING WHAT I SEE IN THE MIRROR.

Has anyone taken the pill? Results? Anything? Please don't lecture - I just needed to get this off my chest. I'm tired of the self-loathing.
