Start Weight
226.0 lb
Lost so far: 4.6 lb

Current Weight
230.6 lb
Performance: gaining 0.5 lb a week

Goal Weight
210.0 lb
Still to go: 20.6 lb
Summer 2003, I was lying on a couch with my feet up - and I was short of breath. I realised my belly fat was pushing my internal organs up against my diaphram.

In September of that year, at 278 lbs and after a few weeks of research I started on Atkins. Within a few months, I was sliding past goal weight after goal weight. My lowest, which was reached about a year after I started controlling my carbs, was 209 lbs. Since then, I have fluctuated a lot with a high of 248 lbs in January 2007. As of November 12, 2010 - I'm 230 lbs.

I know the carb controlled way of eating very well, and can offer a great deal of support. However, age and physiology have changed my body to the point that it doesn't burn like it used to, and a move in 'food-as-fuel' is needed. So, as of a week ago I'm using Tom Venuto's 'Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle' lifestyle.

With our Wii, treadmill, Bowflex, a personal trainer and a 5k run every Monday evening - I am working toward the following goals as of November 12, 2010:

Goal Weight: 210 lbs (Current: 230 lbs)
Goal Body Fat %: 13.5% (Current: 23.5%)
Goal Lean Body Mass: 181 lbs (Current: 175 lbs)
Clothing Goal: Apart from my size 36 Chinos, I have a blue Lycra Olympic shirt I'd like to wear this summer.

(I have no issues with accepting 'buddy' requests from anyone, provided those 'anyones' have no issue with journal feedback and support)

First 5k in 30 Days
Wow - I didn't see the other replies. Thanks for the support!

On Saturday, I hit the road for the first time (ever) and did 4.6 km in 31 minutes. My goal was 45 mins, so even though I underestimated my distance (I missed a loop around the block) I was well under my time.

I thoroughly surprised myself, and I'm not nervous about the race anymore.

First 5k in 30 Days
My wife said the same thing - I have a map of the course, and will try to run it a few times before the race. Also, we're going to measure out the same distance, but closer to home. Thanks for the input.

First 5k in 30 Days
I am registered to run a 5k in Burlington, Ont. race on July 12. The last race I ran was in high school (grad '82) and the only training I've done is my treadmill. I ran my first treadmill mile in Jaunary, so I'm no veteran.

I can do 5k in @ 45 minutes, with a pace of 9:11 per. I know treadmills and roads are different, but I decided it would be a personal triumph just to finish.

I get a cool t-shirt, so I can blend in with the actual runners for the first 500 metres.

when you measure.........
You should measure your waist about an inch above your hip bone. Your belly button moves as your waistline changes, whereas your hip bones remain in place.

Incorrect Start Weight on Challenge
Note: on my signature, it shows 229 lbs as my start weight (which is correct) but in the challenge is shows 226 lbs.
