Since I had my daughter 20 years ago, my weight has fluctuated between 10 and 25lb above my ideal weight. I'm fed up with the constant background unhappiness the extra weight has caused me all those years. I know that the closer I get to my ideal weight, the better I feel: happier, healthier and calmer!

I decided to try a low carb diet after reading Why We Get Fat: And What to Do About It by Gary Taubes. It was really interesting, informative and persuasive. I had always rejected the Atkins approach as unhealthy without actually investigating it.

As I write this Bio, I've been following Atkins for 7 weeks and I've lost 9lb; it's been the easiest weight I've ever lost. In addition, some niggly little symptoms I've had for a while have cleared up. I told my doctor last week that I was following a low-carb diet and she approved.

I fully intend to control my carb intake for the rest of my life. I don't want to spend another 20 years unhappy with my body!

Update in March 2013:

I'm still watching my carbs but not so strictly. I have also been doing the 5:2 intermittent fasting diet for about 8 months. The combination is working well. I'm still slowly losing weight and have now reached my initial target. I still want to lose a few more pounds.

I feel so much happier having lost weight.

I agreed with the peppermint tea idea; that helps when I get indigestion (rare). I have to say my husband has had a lot less acid indigestion since he started eating low carb.
