Starvation mode, fact or fiction?
I don't think it is as simple as just having too few calories being disruptive to the body and metabolism.

During the cutting phase of my transformation I never counted calories at all. Even outside of cutting I still dont count them. The main thing I tried to focus on was to eat many times throughout the day as stated earlier by previous posters and to have as much protein to lower carbs (not counting fruits and veggies) as possible so that my glycogen stores would be lower for workouts to speed up the process of burning fat sooner when working out.

When I look back on it, my metabolism has increased significantly and if I do sit down to eat a 'big' meal, I cant eat as much at once as I used to even if I tried.

I think that what people are noticing when they say that they eat too little for a bit; stall, then eat more and notice a change is that it could also be due to nutrition confusion. When you make your body adapt to change whether its by changing things regarding your intake (such as eating more on certain days to keep it from becoming stagnant or used to something) or your output (changing things in energy exertion such as modifications or changes to workout routine) your body will react to that change and you'll see it reflected in your results.
