following: The GI diet
performance: gaining 0.3 lb a week

I'm almost 29, and noticed symptoms I believe are associated with PCOS, so I started doing research. When I saw that untreated the conditions that got me to this point could lead to insulin resistance or diabetes I got scared. I bought a book about the GI diet, and a scale. The book was great. Everything made sense and it seemed doable (even though I'd also need the recipes to work for my husband with NO weight or health problems). The scale was not so great-- I'm 5' 3", and tipped the scale at 186 lbs. I could not believe it! I'm on a quest to save my own life (and if I look hotter in the process, that's fine by me!). At this rate I should be at my goal weight by August and by the time I turn 30 in April '09, I will have maintained a healthy weight for 8 months.

"AROUND THE WORLD" (in 42 Days)
mini challenge- globe trotters

Adding breakfast to my routine has probably been the hardest thing about re-learning how to eat. Quite simply, I am rarely hungry in the mornings and value sleep over food! But, I have made a concentrated effort to add a bowl of oatmeal and a glass of milk to my morning most days. Occasionally I will whip up an eggbeaters omelette, and will try to have some fruit, but honestly, most days I feel like I'm really accomplishing something just by eating the oatmeal!

Globe Trotters mini challenge!

To avoid munchies I...DON'T avoid munching! I just munch on good things. The GI diet requires 3 snacks a day (sometimes it's hard to eat often enough!). I've noticed that if I do stick with the program I don't get hungry for cakes and cookies, because I've just eaten fruit, or hummus, or nuts. I love it!

What I have learned...how much sugar (and it's evil twin, high-fructose corn syrup) are in EVERYTHING from ketchup to bread and everything in between. By avoiding these hidden pitfalls, I'm doing much better! It was scary to learn that it wasn't just the sweets that were getting me!

I hope this isn't too late. I was unexpectedly out of town and cut off from my internet life! Maybe I can count the miles for next week if they don't count for this week?

Tues: 40 minute exercise video
Wed: 30 minute walk
Thurs: nothing Sad
Friday: playing with dog, cleaning house, 1 hour

I'm glad I'm home now and can get back to "dancing"!

Only lost 1.1 pound (but it's better than nothing!)

GLOBE TROTTERS!
Hello all. I'm sorry to have been out of pocket this week. I left town Tues night for a job interview on Wed, which ended up leading to a follow up one on Friday, so I just got home late last night. I've been doing okay on exercise and food, but not a lot of change on the scales. I'd like to thank Ashley for stepping up and taking the lead for our team. We'll miss Janelleas, but it's great to have someone that is willing to step up when necessary!

By the way, I was offered the job, so I may have a few weeks of crazy moving stuff ahead of me, but I am still committed to this team and challenge...I need you guys!
