If you want to lose weight you should do intervals. For example, on the exercise bike warm up for 2-3 minutes then set it as high as you can and bike as hard as you can for 1 minute. Cool down for 2 and then do 1 minute again. Repeat this for 4 sets.

The point is not to burn calories while you work out. The point is to get the latic acid going so your body's growth hormone is activitated. That way you burn calories for the next 24 hours or until your next work out.

Your next work out should be stength training. Then you alternate with the burst training. You will be shocked at how well shorter workouts work. There is a famous trainer who has written books on this and has a website. I can't remember her name (she's been on Dr. Phil), but her latest book is called something like "sexy arms in 6 weeks."

She advocates for working to the point of exhustion during those one minute bursts, but you only have a work out that lasts about 12-15 minutes. I can't believe the energy I have from doing this. We went hiking this weekend and I went up a trail that I used to have to stop twice for a break and water with no problem at all.

I bought a Bowflex for my husband and I am the one who uses it. The only thing I don't like is having it against a wall so I have to walk around it to set both sides. The hassle keeps me from doing too many different types of exercises. I am amazed the workout you get.

The Firm
I have used The Firm exercise videos for years. I love it. I just ordered the new product they have out and I am looking forward to getting it next week. I am a total fan of internet shopping!

Anyway, it is fun and fast. Great way to get in shape. You don't need a lot of equipment, just dumbbells, and you don't need a lot of space.

I took it for a couple years. It really helped my blood pressure. I had no side effects. I went off when I found out I had parathyroid disease (not the same as thyroid!!!). The symtoms of parathyroid are high blood pressure, aches, moodiness, and kidney stones to name a few. This is caused by a problem with calicum regulation. If you have other symtoms you might want to check out

From Obese to Fit with Calorie Counting and Exercise!
Congrats to you. I will have to check into getting my body fat tested. I feel that I am not as bad as the BMI says I am. I need to lose 7 more pounds just to get to the top of the "overwieght" zone!

I think your story is great because it is simple. Eat less and move more. Sometimes I make dieting too hard and it becomes overwhelming. I started out in April with the idea that I would just eat half of what I usually eat. I have lost 20 pounds and have never been deprived. If I really, really want it I go ahead and eat it. I read once that our craving is satisfied when we eat 25% of what we think we want. So I keep that in mind and do that.

Now I find that I don't even want all those fatting foods. I am exercising and I feel great. I am pushing to get to that "overwieght" zone! Ha!
