I am a 54 year old woman who has to lose about 150 pounds. The pain from the arthrits in my knees finally forced me to get serious about it. Now I am calorie counting and trying to find some form of exercise I enjoy.

My work has had me travelling most of my adult life so I never had any children or got married. My two dogs are like my kids. One is a six year old Great Pryeness Chow mix. He is sweet and gentle and looks like a lion. The other is a year old Chow and I think coyote mix. She is a bundle of energy and sometimes a bit trying but makes me laugh on a daily basis. They brighten up my life and get me out of the house and moving when I am down.

I love to garden and found I have a talent for growing things. My friends say my house looks like a tropical jungle. Last year my knees were so bad that my outdoor garden was overgrown with weeds. I am hoping that things will be better this spring so I can get things cleaned up and looking good.

I have bought my retirement place, two acres in the mountains of BC, and hope to retire soon or at least semi retire. I keep thinking of all the things I could grow on two acres with a good climate. Right now I live in a small town about 40km outside of Calgary AB. Gardening in Alberta is very challanging. Very cold in the winter, hot and dry in the summer and the weather can change by 30C in a matter of hours.

4th Goal Find a healthy weight and maintain

I looked at your profile and it says you want to gain weight. I figure you don't want to eat massive amount of food though as that can get out of control. You might want to try upping your fat intake, you have the calorie allowance and if you stick to good fats that might help keep your appetite under control and avoid binges.

Macros for effective weight loss
I tried the Atkins diet a few years ago and ate more fat than I ever had before. I had my cholesterol levels checked on a regular basis as I heard all the hype about hi fat = hi cholesterol. In my case the good cholesterol improved and the bad dropped. I don't believe that everyones body reacts in the same way. Maybe for some people it would be bad but not me. I eat eggs fried in butter most morning and my cholesterol levels are good.

I think the problem sarahmum was referrring to is that before you would see any comment your buddies made anothers journals but you couldn't actually see the journal entry unless you were their buddy. Now the journal comes up on the summary page. Not really private anymore.

Concerned
Low thyroid levels can make you feel tired, sluggish and depressed. Make sure your medication is correct. A quick way to check if you're getting enough is take your temperature as soon as you wake up, before you get out of bed. If your temperature is low get a blood test.
