I started counting calories with the 'Lose It!' app on my iPod Touch back in March of 2009. I started at 185 or so. I got down to 145 by October of 2009, but plateaued until January 2010 (due to lack of discipline with keeping my diet). I then got a Motorola Droid and switched over to the 'Calorie Counter' app and joined Fatsecret. Hopefully this switch is enough to kick my weight-loss back into action.

Busy Busy girl here. Need things I don't have to cook :)
Busy grad student here. When I really don't have time to prepare anything, I go for a can of Campbell's Chunky Soup Healthy Request. Healthy Request tastes the same, just has a little less sodium (but still high in sodium, so be careful). A whole can is only 250 calories or so.

I also eat a lot of cold-cut sandwiches. Nothing wrong with eating a sandwich for dinner. 2 slices of wheat bread is 100 calories and 6 slices of turkey is 50 calories (depending on which brand you buy).

Also, I buy frozen pre-cooked chicken tenders (choose carefully to avoid the really fatty ones) and warm them up to snack on or combine with a salad. The chicken tenders I buy are about 90 calories each. Watch out for the cholesterol in chicken.

Good luck!

always hungry
Agree with the people above. Sometimes I want to eat even if I'm not hungry. Thus I must always have low-calorie chewing gum in my pocket. Always.

Throughout my childhood, my eating habits created this desire for me to always want to taste things, even if I'm not hungry.

I can minimize this effect with gum.

Congrats with your 17 lbs lost! I also have ~10 more lbs to go. Final stretch!

help - and please respond
I definitely have days where I REALLY don't feel like working out. We all do. But going to the gym is like brushing teeth...or laundry. We don't necessarily have to love it, but it just has to be done.

And honestly, the hardest part is just putting on your gym shoes and getting to the gym. That's not so hard is it? After that, everything just flows. Once you're at the gym, there's no turning back so you work out and feel GREAT afterwards.

Apparently, doing something for 2 weeks makes it a habit. So just promise yourself that you'll workout for at least 2 weeks. It gets easier after that. And you don't have to do something super strenuous. Be sure to have 'light' workout days...and rest days once or twice a week.

Is It Possible to Lose 4lbs a Week?
The Biggest Loser is a very inspiring show, but remember that those contestants are under constant, careful supervision by trained professionals. Also, they basically get to work out all day, which is something that us normal people cannot afford to do.

Personally, 2 lb a week is difficult enough for me to maintain, but it's possible, and you (and other people) will notice results in no time! I wouldn't be able to do 4 lb a week even if I wanted to.
