Hi, everyone! my name is Cynthia. I live in Northern Virginia with my husband and two teenage kids. I enjoy reading non-fiction books especially on spirituality. I have practiced Kundalini Yoga in the past and would like to continue with this. I like bike riding and nature walks. I enjoy working in our yard which is registered with the National Wildlife Federation's Certified Wildlife Habitatâ„¢ program. I like to cook on occasion and have been working on a family and friends cookbook. My husband likes Continental food, my son likes Italian, my daughter is a vegetarian and prefers Asian and my favorite meal is East Indian...

In January 2006, I weighed 235 lbs. I decided it was time to make a lifestyle change. I started browsing fitness articles and bookstore shelves. I discovered two books that helped me change my life. The first was The Complete Idiot's Guide to Total Nutrition by Joy Bauer, and believe me I was a total idiot before I read this book. The second book was The Eat Clean Diet by Tosca Reno which taught me about the importance of clean food AND exercise, so I started learning how to cook and got a gym membership. With the information from these two books I was able to lose 95 lbs on my own with no support from others. Not only did I lose weight but I was in the best shape of my life. I also discovered that certain foods were serious triggers for my rosacea and migraines. As I write this today I have gained 30 lbs over the last couple of years... I believe it's time that I stop trying to go it alone and get back down to 145 lbs or less!!

Surprise Benefits of Weight Loss?
I don't get as many colds and flu viruses like I use to. I was constantly getting sick that others would routinely say "what your sick again?". Now I have a much better immune system, I rarely get sick these days Smile

Really bad (and unasked for) diet advice and other demotivating experiences!
OK k8yk I am going to vent some more, this may not be the place to do it but here it is anyway...

Pixiestyx you hit a long past memory with me on this one, 35 years ago and I can't keep it in any longer.

My father actually did this to me, an exact description, when I was probably 14 with a chicken hot dot. It's no wonder I have a bad relationship with food!! Still trying to figure it all out... I hope I don't owe anyone for the counselling session LOL

Really bad (and unasked for) diet advice and other demotivating experiences!
I am back for round two after my demotivating experience. I originally lost 95 lbs getting down to 140 lbs. I am 5'4". I wanted to be 135 but my extended family kept telling me that I was too thin at 145 and I should put on some weight. They were constantly trying to feed me and said I was stubborn and that this little bite and that little bite wasn't going to hurt me. Oh and that I went to the gym way too much, 1 1/2 hrs 5 days a week. It got to the point that I started believing them and fell back into my old habits, my family seemed happy now. Now I am 175 lbs and have woken up. I am not blaming them... I have learned it is my responsibility and no one else's to take charge of my own health. I am awake and back on track and will lose until I am happy. I think the hard part is going to be maintaining when I find my ideal weight, I have set my goal to 145 Wink
