I started dieting about 2 years ago and decided to try to Atkins, low carb diet. I went from 180 to about 150# in about 3 months. I have now returned to the low carb diet after gaining back 10# and lost another 10#. The only thing that has been a problem for me is that I crave sweets after a meal. I do not have a problem not eating potatoes. I never have been a really big chip eater and really do not eat that much in between meals but always have had a dessert after a meal. I work as a nurse and find it hard to eat a small snack every 2 hours, so I carry nuts with me or boil a lot of hard boiled eggs. So far it is working well for me. The best advice that I have for all low-carb dieters or people on diets is that you need to keep busy and keep your focus off of food!! If you get in the right state of mind, you can do it. My motto for myself that keeps me strong is "nothing taste as good as being thin feels." Keep that in your mind!!!

Dessert blues
Question Hi! I am a 38 year old trying to get down to where I was years ago. I have not had any problems with Atkin's dieting. I go online to find new things to make to keep on track. The only problem I have is the dessert issue. Trying to find sweet things that are low in carbs to eat after a meal to satisfy my sweet tooth. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it!!!

hi!
Smile Hi there, I just keep in mind, that commercial for the itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini. It has been years since I have been in a bikini and wish to lose enough weight to be about 130#. I have 17 # to go and have been most motivated now at this time. Good luck on your journey. I too have been off and on the Atkins diet a couple of times and it seems to be the only diet that works.

Ketosis
Question Hi there! I have too used the ketone strips. One day I will be really dark and other days will be very light. I just use them as a guide but it does depend on how concentrate your urine is. I just know that if I feel lighter and my clothes are losening that I am in deed losing weight. Just don't base the whole diet thing on the ketone strips. Use them as a guide.

The dessert blues
Doubt Frustrated about the dessert thing but if you look online, there are many recipes on low carb desserts. I have also gone to netrition.com and found some low carb dessert packages, like the low carb cheesecake and it is pretty good. Try it!! Hopefully I will continue to look for desserts that are low in carbs. You are doing great, the first step is to just start doing it and you will soon not feel as hungry as before.
