young mother in need of some body toning
I'm a great advocate of P90X. It works for a lot of my buddies at work.
If you don't have the hour a day to devote to it, there is a 10-minute trainer version that you can do once or twice a day (say morning and evening) that works pretty good too. I have a friend whose wife loves it.
Toning, cardio and strength building (not muscle building) helps with weight control by providing a buffer for eating not so well. It's all about calories in vs. calories out. But you still have to eat balanced.

Insanity
I've done P90X several times and it is Da Bomb! I've in the Navy as well and it really helps to get ready for the fitness testing we have to do twice a year. I don't necessarily do the complete program religiously, like I skip the yoga, and I use 8 minute abs everyday instead of doing Ab Ripper. You'll see results by the time you hit Phase II.
My gang is looking at starting Insanity in the next couple of weeks. I know a Marine who has done both and says for weight loss and general cardio, Insanity is the way to go. But he prefers P90X for overall body condition and strength.
