I'm 30 years old, 5'7, and live about 10 minutes from Knoxville, TN. I'm married, have 2 sons, 3 years old and 9 months old, and am staying at home for the first time ever. I love to be outside, I'm very active, and love to work out.

I was heavy all my life until 2000 when I lost 70 pounds in a year. I became addicted to working out, and was in GREAT shape for several years. I was thin, muscular, and better than ever as an athlete. I want that back.

Getting married and having children have obviously changed my lifestyle and the amount of time I have to devote to working out. I think about it all the time, and it's a constant battle. I know how I lost weight before, but that isn't working this time because my body is a lot different at 30 than it was at 21. As a wife and mother, it would be easy to let myself go and make excuses for being overweight, but I want my boys to grow up with a healthy, active, in-shape mom.

I'm much more comfortable with my body right now than I was this time last year (40 lbs. heavier), but I know what I have been in the past. I'm going to get that back and be healthier about my diet than I was the first time I lost weight. Competition keeps me motivated. Sometimes it's with myself, sometimes it's with a piece of clothing that I want to fit into, sometimes it's with a girl that I think looks better than me. Whatever works. :)

new here-- questions about CCLL and CCLM, and pregnancy after Atkins
It's been a week since I found out I was pregnant and I've been very careful of my diet trying to transition from Atkins to the "pregnancy diet". I've added back carbs, but all of them are in the form of fruit, veggies, and limited whole grains, and I don't eat as many as I did before. My weight has stayed within the same 5 lb. bracket all week, so I'm very happy to be able to eat this way and maintain my weight. I think the hardest part is watching portion size after coming off of Atkins, which doesn't make you watch portions very much. When I do eat carbs, I make sure to balance them by eating some protein or a little fat with them. I feel like I'm eating well for both me and my baby, so I hope this helps anyone concerned about eating/weight gain during pregnancy.

new here-- questions about CCLL and CCLM, and pregnancy after Atkins
I gained 80 lbs with my first child almost 2 years ago, and got almost all of it off by following Atkins. I just recently found out that I'm pregnant again and I WILL NOT gain 80 lbs. during this pregnancy. I love the low-carb lifestyle, but I know it isn't so great for pregnant women. I went off of Atkins 5 days ago right after I found out, and the scales have crept up 3 lbs. But it's my experience that my weight jumps as soon as I add back even a few carbs just because of water weight. I've switched to the South Beach approach for a while, because it focuses on whole grains, not much sugar (at all), and good fats. It's very nutritionally sound, and I'm just shooting for weight maintenance for a few months. I'll let you know if that works for me.

South Beach vs. Atkins
I did Atkins for a year and lost a lot of weight. But at the beginning of this year I was tired of my breath stinking and not eating fruit, so I decided to do SB. I had a lot of trouble figuring out the differences too, especially in phase 1. The only real difference in Ph. 1 is that Atkins limits your veggies, SB doesn't. Also, Atkins lets you have all the saturated fat you want, SB mostly wants you to have poly- and mono- unsaturated fats. The only dairy that Atkins allows during ph. 1 is full fat cheeses, SB let's you have skim or reduced-fat milk, yogurt, and cheese. SB also allows beans (pinto, kidney, peas, etc.), and Atkins doesn't because of the carbs. The biggest difference is that Atkins focuses on low-carb, SB focuses on the types of carbs you eat. On both diets you eventually add back carbs, but Atkins is really specific about the number of carbs you add back per week until you get to the point of maintenance rather than weight-loss. SB just tells you to be careful as you begin to add back, and if you get to the point where you're not losing anymore, take some carbs away again. They are very similar diets, but SB seems healthier in the long run to me. I hope this helps.

GOING TO THE BATHROOM!
Everybody is different. You may just be one of those people who hold water. Sodium really soaks up the water, so maybe something you ate yesterday had a good bit of salt in it. You just keep doing what you're doing and that water weight will start falling off (or out). And one BM per day is normal. Unless you don't feel quite right, don't worry.

SOmething gross...
Broccoli is great. Anything with a lot of fiber. Your veggies sound great, maybe just drink a little more water. It may just take a few days, and if that doesn't work, you can always try Citrucel or another fiber supplement. I hope it helps!
