15 January 2008

I am getting deployed to Iraq and I just found out last Friday, Jan 11. OMG, talk about a way to lose weight! Yeah, and to top it off, I have to leave this THURSDAY!! WTF?! OMG, so yeah, I um have been losing a lot of weight due to freaking out and trying to hurry and make sure that all my personal affairs are in order, to include who's going to pick up my kids and have them do their homework, feed them, put them to bed, etc until my husband gets home at 8:00 pm.

Plus he has classes 3X per week at night so I had to find somebody to accomodate that. Well I have the most AWESOME lady who is hooking us up! She's amazing and said that this is going to be her way of helping out with the war and I can't tell you how thankful me and my husband are. This lady is amazing! She's going to be like their surrogate mom and family while I am gone and until my husband gets home everyday. My kids are kind of anxious but they know that I'll be back and they have a lot of people back home that have volunteered to take care of them and make sure they are in high spirits while I am gone. But yeah, I was weighing 156 on Friday and I have steadily dropped a lb everyday....and my stomach is all acidic and I can't eat even if I wanted to.

But honestly, don't take that the wrong way, especially for you military haters. I volunteered to be in the Army National Guard and honestly, I've always wanted to get deployed. It's what I've been training for all this time. My kids understand that if I don't do it, who is. And they understand that it's better to keep the violence on someone else's homefront. Keep the evil away.

Anyhow, I'm a Broadcast Journalist so I'll be reporting on the war along with fixing electronics (I'm also qualified in that area), and doing all the normal soldier tasks like guard duty, roving patrols, etc. So this should be interesting. Not to mention I get a year straight of recording, writing, editing, and broadcasting under my belt!! So once I get back, if I want to be part of the broadcast, print, or public affairs industry in the civilian world, I can hop right into it. So I'm pretty excited!

I'm gonna have my own TV camera and as soon as I start spittin' out stories, I will post a link on this website in my journal so you guys can see mine and my colleagues stories from the warfront. Honestly, I'm really excited to go. At first I was sickened because my husband and I didn't know anyone who would be able to help us out with the kids and then when we did find someone, she and her husband came back the next day and said they were uncomfortable helping us, was it going to be long-term, etc. That made us sick because it's not like we have a lot of warning and we are both active duty Army, serving so they don't have to! They also both stay home all day and initially told us that they have all the free time in the world. Not to mention my kids are older and really don't require much supervision/help at all.

Anyhow, once we found our other friend that stepped up the plate and pledged herself to us, we were so thankful and now my stress is gone. She, single-handedly lifted a huge burdon from my heart so now I can focus on my mission instead of always worrying about my munchkins. Honestly, I am one tough cookie, but ohmygosh, I am such a weak ass when it comes to my kids. I'm all whiney and emotional when it comes to them. They are just so darn cool, and sweet, and awesome.

Anyhow, yeah, I'm definitely going to lose weight but it won't be from any diet, it will be from working my ass off! LOL But I'll love it!

Anyhow, stay tuned for my story links!

PS: I have to go to training for a couple months before I go overseas so hang in there. I promise it will be well worth the wait. Also, I'll be sending stories to my local newspapers and internet sites here in AZ. I'll keep you posted. ~Kitty :)
