I am a 63 years young and I am FAT! I raised five children alone and now they are all grown up and have given me 11 grandchildren. I have a very adorable great grandson now.

I love my advocacy job, but dealing with D V survivors can be stressful sometimes and that's seems to be when I begin reaching for the candy bars. Stress eating is the worst for me.

Do we have any Houston members out there? I lived in the Pasadena area for about 21 years. I now live in Iowa.

Looking for a Diet buddy
Hey Felicia
I need to loose about 70 pounds and it is so hard. My Doc just told me that I am in early stage of diabetes, so that is a good motivation to get this lard off of my body. He put me on the South Beach Diet and I haven't slipped once. It'a amazing how much starch and carbs we put into our bodies.

I'm in my 60's, but I'd be happy to be your buddy if you want.

Keep your spirit up and find ways to eat your food when everyone else is eating the unhealthy things. I went to the movies last week and while my friend was eating buttered popcorn, I was eating cashews. (my favorite nut)

south beach
I just started on the South Beach Diet about a week ago. I've lost a solid 9 pounds in about 10 days. At first I figured it was water, but it's been consistant. I plan to stay on phase one for at least another two or three weeks.

Is there such a thing as being scared to lose weight?
I have been slender and I have been in between and now I am FAT. I am also over 60 and sometimes I feel like I am invisible. I'm not sure if it's the age or the weight or both, but it seems like after a certain line is crossed, people do not make eye contact with you. Does anyone else feel that way?

I am afraid to lose weight because I always chose losers or abusers to be in my life. When I got heavy, the romantic overtures stopped and it was sort of a relief. I have a lot of female friends and lots of family that love me. I'm not complaining, but I think if I lose a lot of weight, someone might be attracted to me and I'm not sure if I will be able to make good choices.

Since I've been alone for so long, will I be so desperate that I will settle for just anyone? I already know that I don't want to be abused or used again, so I know that I will have to take things slow. I guess I'll just have to depend on my instincts.

You: on a diets snack ideas???
When my family was eating potato chips and watching TV. I drained green beans and mushrooms, then added a touch of Italian dressing and a litte salt. I could eat all if the green beans and mushrooms I wanted.

I love fruit and I often eat a few grapes if I want a sweet snack. Cut up the apples, peaches or melon into smaller pieces and eat ONE AT A TIME. It seems like you are eating more and it will help you.

Drink lots of water. Sometimes I add a bit of lemon to give it a little zing.

When I first started a weight watchers diet way back in the 70's, I would wrap lettuce leaves around dill pickles. I was a voraciou eater and I think I went through about 5 heads of lettuce that first week. LOL

Best of luck to you
