The last Bio I filled out was...I think....probably when I was 4 years old and crayoned my way through 'My Book About Me'. And as an FYI, it's about 47 steps to my mailbox... :)

My name is Steve...I'm, gulp, 41 years old. I've been with my wife since 1987...married since 93. We have 13 year old triplets and an 11 year old. The triplets are 2 boys and a girl. The 11 year old is a boy. We live in a nice house in a nice town and I have a nice job. Exciting huh?

Tragedy has followed me it seems. I was in a terrible car accident when I was 11...we were hit by a drunk driver...killing my Dad and my older brother who was 13. Tough tough times...6 years later I met the girl who would become my wife, best friend and mother to my four children. Both of our moms died in the year 2000...nine weeks apart. Another tough time. But we persevere...

Did those things contribute to weight gain? Maybe - I have no idea. But it doesn't matter....whether it did or not, the pounds gradually got put on. So now it's time to work on me...get in shape, be healthy...for myself, for my wife and for my kids.

So that's a very brief Bio - my updated Book About Me. It could really be much longer as I've left a lot out. But perhaps someday I'll actually put it in a real book...

falling off wagon
Hi Deedee - you've had to deal with a lot in a short time frame. Emotional eating is very common and it's a way some people (a lot of people) cope with stress and pain and loss. It may be hard, but try not to get down on yourself over the weight gain. You're dealing with things bigger than a few pounds here. My advice to you is to grieve with your family, do what you can to focus on yourself when you can and to do your best to avoid situations where food is used for comfort. But in the end, if you do fall back a little during this tough time - it's OK. Don't beat yourself up over it. You'll be ok in the long run. The fact that you recognize what's going on is a great thing - and you'll be 100% back on track before you know it. Being healthy is a life long commitment - and we're all bound to be faced with adversity, pain and loss that might derail us for a short time. The trick is to not let it control you for too long. Hang in there...I'm sorry for your loss and the difficulties you're facing right now.

losing to fast?
I don't think that's too fast at all. What everyone is saying is right. A lot comes off the first week and it does slow down a little. I've only been doing this a month but for me it was 8 the first week, then 3, 3.5 and 3 this week. But I've been consistent with what I've been eating and consistent with my exercising. So the math works. What I take in and what I burn - when I calculate the net difference each week it's been very very close to what I'm actually losing (3500 calories per pound). So that first week was the shock to my system, water weight...whatever. Same for you...the ensuing weeks will give you a better idea of how much you can expect to lose each week if you follow your plan....1-3 per week is a good pace I think. More likely to keep it off that way....good luck!

the biggest loser
The Biggest Loser is an entertaining show and can be quite motivational. However, now that I've started my own 'weight-loss, get healthy' journey I think I'm going to have to abandon the 2 hours in front of the TV watching other people achieve the goals I want for myself. So I thank the show for the motivation...and will probably watch again once I reach my goal. That's just me - many people will still find it motivating and can watch AND work on themselves. For me - I think I need to keep myself off the couch as much as possible. Time goes by too fast for me to continue watching others succeed while I wait for life to do it for me. It won't...and I know that now....
