I have a theory about how our bodies consume stored fat; based on these seemingly regular plateaus I have; when it really seems that my weight loss should be more or less constant with a gradual amount of diminishing returns. That is my diet should be slightly less effective as I lose weight because it remains largely constant.

It seems like every 3-4 weeks I have a period of about a week where I stop losing weight. I have a body composition scale and during these periods the values it displays remain pretty much constant as well. In addition during these periods I notice that I feel hungry more often and with more severity; and I have to drink more water to make my stomach feel full more often.

My theory is that the body has to lay out some sort of structure that it uses to break down and ultimately burn stored fat. I think that it takes about 5-6 days to complete this process. Once the structure is in place the body absorbs fat from the stores it is connected to for a few weeks; then once it is no longer able to consume from those areas it has to stop and repeat the process in new areas. It would be interesting if there was a way to observe this in vivo to know for sure. As any good scientist knows; a hypothesis is useless without a way to test it.

At this point all I have is observation and data. I thought it was an observation worth sharing at any rate.

On a related note, yay for more weight loss! I love getting back on track. My motorcycle jacket was getting way too loose. It was bulging out in the front and pulling the neck open. This lead to cold air flowing onto my chest. This time of time of year that is especially annoying because it means that I had to wear an extra layer under the coat; which made me too hot.
So off to the accessory store I went this morning and picked up a duplicate of what I already had because I love it (Joe Rocket Atomic 4.0). This time though I found that I could just barely fit into a large. I was ecstatic! I have gone from 5X's to No X's, I am starting to feel like I have really achieved something however I know that this is not the time for slowing down. I have 57Lbs left to go before I hit my goal weight and even when I get there the road will be long ahead. A new lifetime of low calorie high nutrition eating combined with a serious amount of exercise awaits. I cannot wait for it. I want the next half of my life to be way better than the first and I know it will happen because I am determined and I posses a will of titanium.
