I am an armed forces veteran of 14 years service which I commenced following a disastrous attempt at college. I believe today that college would have been a lot easier if I had not detoured into a sick relationship with addictive substances. Entering the service helped me to grow up a lot, yet also helped me to hide my addiction for quite a while. Eventually I got clean and began taking some college classes part time as my schedule allowed. The build up for Desert Storm was going on at this time. I went. Upon my discharge at 35, I returned to college full time eventually completing a bachelor's degree in Psychology. I took the BA and became an addictions counselor, working first in the Texas prison system and then the Ohio prison system. Approximately 7 years later I had some mental health issues surface that demanded to be dealt with. I quickly found myself having gone from a full life to nothing in a matter of weeks. Eventually I asked the Dept of Veteran Affairs for help and they gave it. Am grateful for their unending support. For all the nightmare stories one hears about the VA, I have never experienced anything less than top notch care. All things considered, life is pretty good. I spend my time assisting others with their own recovery from addiction, bowl weekly, play racquetball regularly, and assist my mother with whatever she needs. I ascribe to Anglican Christian faith with a smattering of indigenous nations spirituality. My main struggle today is with my relationship with food. I found this site when searching for caloric content in a variety of foods. This site just kept popping up. And it had the answers for which I sought. Thus, to the administrators of this site, here's to you!! Thank you for building this website. I believe this is something that will help me achieve my dietary and fitness goals.
