I am training......................for the rest of my life!
I will be turning 50 this year. I made a promise to myself late last year that I would be in the best shape of my life for my 50th birthday. I weighed in @ 243 lbs around November of 2011. My goal is to get below 200 & stay there. I've been active my whole life, but in 2008 I broke my left hip, and that lead to a total hip replacement in 2009. I got in shape before surgery & recovered fine from the procedure because of it. But then I got lazy and over indulged an in no time I was overweight.
My titanium hip is not an excuse as to not being active. I can do anything I used to do with it. I just need to be careful. Paying attention to my diet is easy for me because I like all food. I know how to eat sensibly & just need to focus on it. That's where Fatsecret really helped out. Since I found Fatsecret, my weight started coming off more consistently. Having a total diet & exercise journal is so helpful. And now that I have almost 5 months recorded, it so easy to see how changes affect me. I dont follow any specific diet. My main goal is my RDI & stay below 50 grams of fat. I just eat to live now, instead of living to eat. And I eat good food. I love to cook & eat but I just do it sensibly. My lady is Italian & cooks like no other. I pay attention to portions & I'm ok.

I'm not far from my goal & when I get there I will continue to use Fatsecret to monitor myself. I am totally in love with my best friend, soul mate, woman of my dreams. I want to be on this earth with her for a long time!

Linking Fatsecret to fitness apps
Does Fatsecret ever plan to link themselves up to fitness apps (sports tracker, MapMyRide,Fit bit, Jawbone etc) so our workouts can be sent to our smartphones and recorded on Fatsecret? Seems it would be a good motivational tool. Especially if you use a heart rate monitor. you get a more accurate record of calories burned.
Why does this say I'm 211 down below? I'm 203. Wink

I really appreciate all of these tips. I am going to try both the spaghetti squash and the kale! I have some coconut oil and I'm sure glad you gave me a tip about that. I don't think I would like to be running to the bathroom that much at work--LOL. How long can you keep the coconut oil once it's opened?

Cut in half lengthwise. clean out seeds. put cut side down on cookie sheet. Add about 1/2" or so of water & bake on 400-425 about 30 minutes. Perfect everytime. I also throw my seeds in the backyard. I get several plants every year & harvest the squash. One squash @ the store yielded me about a dozen squash.

Pop ads on Fatsecret
Are the gross, fungus infected toe nail picture ads on Fatsecret put there on purpose to curb our appetite? Just wondering!

Breakfast Yes/No
Repeating what most say, EAT BREAKFAST! The same way it take wood or fuel to start a fire, nutrients get for fire burning. Whether it be a smoothie, fresh made juice, oatmeal, eggs, yogurt, etc., you need to get your "fire" burning to get your body to burn more.
If people are getting sleepy or tired after breakfast, they're not consuming the right things. My .02

What are your biggest secrets/tips?
Agreed 100%. It's got to be your lifestyle. I passed some people on the trail I was running. They chuckled as I jogged by with two 10 lb dumbells in my hands. I was asked "are you training for something?". I said, YES, THE REST OF MY LIFE!
A body at rest stays at rest. A body in motion stays in motion. simple as that.

Mine kind of goes with Keld & Borkn's tips: find a way of eating that isn't completely intrusive to your natural self - make it something that is completely possible to do for the rest of your life...and then just let it be a background thing.

The harder you have to fight to stay on your plan, the less likely you are to stick with it. If I were ever crazy enough to attempt Atkins for example, I'd jump off something tall within a week! I love me some carbs, and would not do well on that plan. I know this about me, so no promise of weight loss would make it worth it.

Make it healthy, but make sure it is YOU. Once you find your new WOE, let it become routine. I stay within my plan almost always, but most days I just don't have to think very hard about it anymore, because it has become so ingrained. I like that; makes my life easy. And most importantly, I'm not spending my days consumed with thoughts of "dieting"!
