I'm 63 and diagnosed with diabetes last month, so I have been exercising and trying to keep my blood sugar down with eating more veggies, cutting down on servings. I have lost weight and have dropped several jean sizes. I weigh less now than I have in years, since my college days.
I went into the hospital with a blood clot so now I am also on a blood thinner, Warfarin. It was while I was in the hospital that the diabetes was discovered. I live in the Mississippi Delta.

Carbs vs Protein
vitamin C helps plant protein to be absorbed by the body better. Iron found in meat is absorbed faster.

Carbs vs Protein
I've lost weight as well...gone down several jean sizes. I haven't been this light since my college days...in the '70's. I feel better now since I've lost weight...and know I will continue to feel better once I get down to my target weight, but I am having some trouble getting enough iron...that's why I was asking about the protein.

Thank you for your advice....my A1C was 6.4.
I was just asking in general if that was how it worked....but I'll check with my doctor.

Carbs vs Protein
I'm new to diabetes...was diagnosed on March 12th. I was told that I should have no more than 150 carbs per day....so less is okay? And should my diet consists of more protein than carbs? I should also mention that I'm on the blood thinner, Warfarin, which limits the amounts of dark green veggies, because of the amount of vitamin K they have.
I am trying to stay on 1400 calorie a day. And by protein should that be more of a meat protein than plant?
any help would be most appreciated.

Protein
But the tea has Vit. K and I was told not to drink herbal teas while on Warfarin. Being on Warfarin keeps me from eating a lot of good green veggies...high in iron and low in calories. I am so looking forward to September and getting off Warfarin. I was taking the INR test weekly until they got the dosage regulated...something about insurance not covering it only once a month.
