Hi, I'm Becky. I'm a mom of two great young men who still live at home with me and I'm a dedicated life partner to a wonderful lady named Amy.
I was slim all through my childhood and teen years.
My weight problem began in my adult life with the pregnancy of my first son. I had to gain some weight due to pregnancy issues in my early stages. I never lost that weight again. I had a bad knee and has surgery on one knee when I was 18. I really gained weight then since I had the excuse of a bad knee to avoid much exercise. I was a mom of a developmentally disabled child and a few years later was mom to two developmentally disabled children. I didn't consider my weight important and wasn't really concerned with my appearance so I never worried about it. I just bought bigger clothes.
As I aged, though, weight issues became health issues. I developed type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Again, I never really took that seriously, the doctor gave me medications to take care of that. As my neuromotor disorder eventually limited my mobility and I was using crutches and then a wheelchair, the weight became an issue. I am causing injury to my rotator cuffs by manually wheeling too much weight in addition to the weight of a chair. Using ambulatory aids requires putting my heavy weight onto my elbows and wrists, and that is causing issues. The weight has to come off.
