performance: losing 1.0 lb a week

During High-School I exploded to 315lbs and was standing a staggering 5'5". I was bitten by the iron bug during my sophomore summer and started hitting the weights and have never looked back. I dropped down to 143lbs my senior year; losing the weight the wrong way I lost a lot of muscle, even with my weight-training.

I became so "number conscience" that whenever I saw that digital weight ticker flip past the previous days' number I would freak. I overcame this number obsession and started to lift with increased intensity and a mindset of always overcoming and surpassing a previous goal. I then started a "bulk" that was advised by a Professional Natural Bodybuilder; horrible, horrible idea.

I gained so much weight so fast, forgetting and getting suckered into the "number" again that I saw my weight in my lifts' go up but wasn't checking the mirror. Soon I shot up to 225lbs and was clobbering self set records, then I screwed up my shoulder.

I was out of the gym for 8 months and now that I'm ready to come back, I have a seasoned mindset and the right history of tools to pull out of my bag.

It'll be an interesting journey, trust that.

Strength and Honor.

Whey Protein - Any good for losing Fat?

I recently read about a study that showed that using whey protein results in muscle mass gain and fat loss in comparable groups.

When I think I need protein, I eat more meat. Before using any whey product I would need to know that it was lactose-free, as I am lactose intolerant. I'd just as soon eat food.

Some old school rules never change. More muscle = more fat burned. When you get to a point where your body is actually increasing its muscle mass it needs more fuel and when dieting correctly it feeds on what your body has in it's fat storage. I've been to the point of cut up, 4-6% BF and I then started eating 3500-4250 calories a day at 60/40 carbs/protein and STILL couldn't gain any fat because my muscle ratio to fat was so high that it was simply just burining all of it.

You can go to dpsnutrition.net or bodybuilding.com and purchase whey protein isolate in a lactose free form. There are so many different brands available - the one type I was given when I was 19 tasted like s##t.

Whey Protein - Any good for losing Fat?

Hi all, i know whey protein is a high protein powder when mixed with milk / water ect. Is it any good for a low carb diet if i was to get a low carb whey protein powder?

Yes, mix it with water. Get yourself Optimum Nutrition Gold Whey Standard which has 1G of sugar or 1 carbohydrate. Anyone can fight that "protein powder doesn't metabolize the same as actual protein food intake," but truth is protein is protein.

To protein shake or no protein shake?

I'm also starting to notice that my recovery/rebuild time is going down... the increased protein is definitely helping with that. Smile

NICE! That's exactly what supplementing Protein after a workout will do for you.

More Muscle = More FAT BURNED!

i've actually been thinking of buying some powdered protein(soy for me... can't handle dairy & i'm vegan anyways Razz), but it's really expensive & i don't always make smoothies/shakes. is there any other use for it besides those?

Depends on where you purchase your supplements.

Cheaper Soy Protein Wink

thank you! but there's still the issue of what to do with it besides smoothies.

Idea I FORGOT !!!! (this list could go on all day Rolling Eyes) PANCAKES *Good Lord I love Pancakes* Yogurt (increase that Protein!) any "sauce" you make...add it.

Now that I finally saw these "Smiley's" I will be using the hell out of them. Laughing <- lol

Anything to help Wink

There is a certain WHITE - "flavorless" soy protein powder that you can add to almost anything. I have a cookie that my wife makes and instead of using all the required flour she replaces that percentage of flour with the protein mix. You can do that with almost anything you bake - including if you make your own pasta...although baking it does take trial and error as it's a completely different compound than flour and could screw up everything.
