Fitbit has an open API

Thanks for the suggestion...

FatSecret also has an open API which allows other services/apps etc to access all your FatSecret data (with your permission of course) so we suggest that you reach out to them to see if they want to build on top of your profile.

Best,
The FatSecret team

Kinda funny...I just opened a ticket with them on this very topic. Fitbit had almost word-for-word the same reply. I guess both companies think the other should build the integration. Consumers will ultimately drive one of them to fold...unfortunately, it will probably come too late.

Anyone using the Fitbit Flex or similar devices?
Does Fat Secret plan to integrate with Fitbit? I'm toying with switching over to MyFitnessPal due to its better integration with fitbit.

Help Me

Actually the top performer is calorie count... it's just that those of us doing it named it something different. Mine is Matt's Calorie Restriction. If you added up all those who count calories, it would be the largest group... and yes... it's a lifesytle change unless you want to revert back to your former weight.

I suppose if you are using this site then you are counting calories. I do think different combinations of food effect different people different ways. I've experimented with Weight Watchers in the past, which is basically counting calories. It does work, but it is not pleasant (for me) and therefore not a lifestyle change. On their program, they seem to encourage artificial sweeteners, low fat everything, processed foods.

In the past 1 month, I've been experimenting with the Paleo way of eating, which is basically meat and vegetables, eliminating all forms of grains, sugars, and legumes. Yes, I've been counting calories (except for the last week) which produces weight loss. However, eliminating the grains and sugars has been a great experience for me so far. After the first 3 or 4 days, I have not been hungry, no cravings, much more energy. No artificial sweeteners, no low-fat artificial/processed foods. Basically, I can tell this is a much better way to eat for me. So far, I'm encouraged that this could be a permanent change for me. Others may have a much higher carb tolerance and therefore may need a different combination of foods.

There are many different "diets" (or formulas for eating), which is what the orignal poster was asking about. Simply saying "count calories" may produce weight loss, but that is not a helpful answer by itself.

Recipe submission behavior is silly
I'm trying to submit a recipe that we made last night. It is called cheese stuffed meatloaves.ninths system won't let me use that title because it is already used. However, you can't find it by searching for it. If the recipe title is not shared or published, then you should be able create one with the same title.

Help Me
First things first, start writing down what you eat and keep track of nutrition (using this site, of course). Then while you get a couple weeks of "as-is" journaling, read through the different diets on this forum (and others). One thing that jumped out at me...if you look at the "diets" page of this site, the top diets are listed in terms of average weight lost over the last week/month/all time. There are loads of people in each diet. However, the top performers are Nutrisystems, Atkins, and GI. All these are low carb variants. The question is whether they hold up as a lifestyle change. That's a question you need to decide.
