I've been grotesquely obese my whole life. I've struggled with diets and tried every one out there. They all worked and ultimately failed. As a result I was 425+ pounds.
Today, I'm 179lbs. I've reduced my "diet" to one simple step....if it has more than one ingredient, I don't buy it, I don't eat it.
I'm glad I found this site. If I can help anyone, I'm happy to do so. I know how difficult it is and what it took me to get to this point.

How we sabotage our health
Tinkerbella, you don't love pizza, your addicted to the sugar & carbs in the sauce and crust. The other sensations you feel when you eat pizza are just an illusion created by your mind to ensure you eat more.
I used to eat a whole pizza by myself so I do understand the allure. What I found is, that after I started to eat healthier, when I'd have the occasional slice,It really wasn't all that good.
It took 2 years for me, but I think you'll find as you wean yourself off sugar and carb laden food, you'll begin to appreciate the taste of one ingredient foods and see that food's you thought were so delicious really aren't.
After all, if you have to add sugar and spices and a pound of cheese to something, how good can it be?

How we sabotage our health
That is a great observation. In my college days, there were very few obese students and, as you wrote, today it seems to be the norm rather than the exception. We are so ingrained to socialize over food that I think the first step would be to at least make the food we socialize over healthier. A bowl of apples or walnuts instead of potato chips as an example.
The other issue is that the food we are served is addictive. No different than Heroin or any other drug...The more we eat, the more we crave.
Ultimately, we need to break that addiction by making the decision not to eat.
As for socializing without food the first step is, as the host or hostess of a gathering, don't serve any. Instead, create an event that keeps your guests mind off of food and doesn't involve a sedentary, passive activity like watching a movie. Do a scavenger hunt, tour a museum, go on a nature walk, play a sport, host a debate...Engage the mind, the rest will follow.

It's a great cereal. Just finished a bowl for breakfast And the fact that wal mart makes it just blew me away. I don't associate Walmart with healthy food, lol.

How we sabotage our health
Thank you to everyone for your condolences and thoughts. I enjoy reading everyone's comments, it reminds me that we are not alone in our struggle to be healthy. In my search for healthy, tasty food I found something new in a very unexpected place, Walmart.
It's Uncle Sam's Cereal. It's got just three ingredients, wheat berries, malt & flax seed. No sugars, no preservatives & lots of fiber. Plus it's only $2.98. I couldn't believe it. I bought a box. Had a serving, 3/4 cup. Very tasty & healthy. Just FYI.

I appreciate all the great responses.
I remember as a kid getting sent to fat camp for 2 weeks. It was ok, I lost weight & was feeling good.
The last day of camp, the parents came to take the kids home.
I'll, never ever forget this....my mom says, you look good, this was a good idea to send you here now lets go to Roy Rogers and celebrate your weight loss, lol.
Needless to say, the 2 weeks of weight loss at camp quickly became another notch in the yoyo string.
