It's amazing how just a little inattention can make a person balloon up!

I had previously lost about 20 pounds on Atkins, over a year ago, and had maintaining well... Until Dec, when I decided to donate a kidney to my brother, who happens to live on the other side of the US.

Well, while I was there, there was nothing but resturant food available, and I was always being treated to dinner by my father. Since I was going into surgery in a week, he felt I "deserved" to have desserts with every meal, and almost every meal was Italian (thats what ALL the resturants in the area were).

Then, of course, there were complications in surgery, plus a whole lot of nonsense. The result of this kidney donating trip? I gained back the 20 pounds I had lost, plus an extra 7. (I'd kept that off for a year before that!)

Now I'm all healed and ready for a change! Time around, not only am I going to just lose that 20, I'm going to my goal weight, my pre-pregnancy weight from 5 years ago. No, the 50 pounds doesn't scare me in the slightest, actually, having that much to lose just encourages me more!

Exclamation Arrow Exclamation I WENT TO THE GYM YESTERDAYExclamation Very Happy Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

Sorry about that, it's been just a little too long since I've gone. Didn't do any lifting like I meant to (light weights high reps - I build muscle too easily), but I DID go on the eliptical for 45 minutes, plus the 5 min cooldown.

And today? I feel GREAT!

Ack, I just didn't get my act together last week! Didn't go to the gym at ALL, all the walking I got in was to/from the ferry to work! So tempting to just blame my husband, who was interested in doing all the things I like to do (which is rare!), but didn't want to go to the gym.

But I can't blame my husband for my own mistakes!

Arrow The biggest barrier? It is just too easy to come up with excuses for not going to the gym this one night, but you'll do more exercise the next night to make up for it! Or just this one piece of pizza, but you'll be good otherwise! I am the QUEEN of excuses... Evil or Very Mad

At least no weight gained!

Well, I didn't see this challenge before the deadline Monday, hope I can still join in!

Last Straw: I live on the 4th floor, no elevator, been here for going on 3 years. Lately I've realized that I avoid going to the car if I've forgotten something because I can't handle all the stairs again. I don't run to the store or anywhere else unless it's all at once - that was never me!

Also, the rolls just got to be more than I could stand each morning... its really annoying when your bra's don't fit!

Week Goal: With working full time and school (and starting this on Wed not Monday), I'm going to say 135 min on the Eliptical (3 days, 45 min). I already walk 15 min each way from the ferry to work, and with my 4 flights of stairs, do you think those count too? Wink

Good luck everyone!

Questions to all other low-carb dieters...
I too have been anemic since a very young age, taking iron pills daily since junior high. Even then I still was borderline. When I am following a low-carb lifestyle my anemia is shockingly easier to manage.

I say lifestyle because even when I am not quite "dieting", I have learned to severly minimize the quantity of carbs I eat. Why? Because I'm more alert, don't feel the desire to nap when I get home from work, and my skin even looks better. Trust me, when I backslide into a current-usa-normal-carb-amount habit, I feel it, and not just on my waistline. You're definately not the only one!

A couple months ago Maxim magazine got in trouble for reviewing an album that hadn't even been released to them. The article was based on what was "expected", but not actually on the music itself, even though the article said it was.

Apparently that sort of thing happens a lot, reporting on things you don't have the facts on, but a person has to produce! That's what I think happens, whoever is writing the article just asks a bunch of people who all repeat the same hearsay, most of it based on assumptions from others who have not read any real literature.

Makes me reluctant to tell people why I avoid bread at dinner, tired of argueing about it, even though I have made some converts!

> 50 lb. Wait Loss
I've lost 20 before, so I know this will work, but I'm in to lose at least 50 this time!

(Though I wish the doctor hadn't told me I'm small boned, I thought I was large boned, now I know I have a LOT farther to go than I orginally thought!)

It seems I'm surrounded by people who are relatively happy with their weight, I'd definatly appreciate having others to talk to, and more encouragement.
