Eat Clean
Thanks guys - Enjoy the website! I know what you mean about falling into the trap of quick fix dinners. I have two kids under 5 and work full time as well. As the books say preparation is key. Sunday Evenings I am a cooking/prepping machine and prep everything for the week and always make sure I have chopped veg / chicken etc to hand in the fridge. I've actually got a batch of clean granola in the oven right now!

Eat Clean
Hi Everyone,

I read all the eat clean diet books last year (a couple months ago) and then attempted to put it into practice and turns out it is very easy.

If you want to give them a look it is The Eat Clean Diet by Tosca Reno. Its basic premise is that you don't eat anything processed. My original thought was that it would be like the raw food diet or something crazy restrictive like that. But turns out it is very easy to stick to. You just need to start reading labels (her rule thumb is if it has more than 3 ingredients it probably isn't clean), and of course no white flour (wholewheat flour and any other natural flours are okay), and no white sugar (but loads of natural sweetening alternatives - honey, maple syrup, agave syrup). Natural carbs are fine - potatoes / whole wheat pasta / wheat bread (even better make your own pasta and bread) basically as long as its got natural ingredients and nothing processed its okay. I started with cleaning up one thing at a time in our house. I started with breakfast - homemade granola / oatmeal and clean cereals only (shredded wheat / wheatabix / all bran). Then gradually started to clean up one meal at a time in our house. The kids are not complaining (I'm not a horrible mum there is still a sweets jar in the cupboard for them for special occasions!), and both my husband and I are finding it so much easier than anticipated. I actually enjoy the challenge of seeing a new recipe and then thinking - how can I make it 'clean'. Even Tosca Reno (the director of 'Eat Clean'Wink says she still starts every day with her beloved coffee - so this diet is not about depravity, she actually says if you aim to 'eat clean' 86% of the time then you will massively improve your health and soon it will come naturally with everything - my food that I will not part with is Pepsi Max (although I have decreased it significantly) and of course the occasional chocolate. But definately google 'The Eat Clean Diet' and let me know what you think - I know they all use this cliche but it really is a lifestyle. And if you are looking for any 'clean' recipes give me a shout as I am acquiring quite the collection! Have fun and 'Eat Clean' !
